sorry BD but you don't need to be part of the organization to get things changed. Heard of the DellHell story? Check it out on the net, but basically loyal customers of Dell started to get p***ed off with having their opinions ignored by the company, so they started to blog about it. To cut a long story short...it created a huge fall in Dell stocks and forced them to change their policy re consumer involvement. Football fans have the power to make a change_ a huge change from outside of the organization. All they need is the will.

"WE are a real and vibrant part of the equation. We should be able to decide who runs the game we love, shouldn't we?"

The problem is you can't define "we". The only way you control voting and hierarchy in anything is through membership and structure. While in the past through amatuer football I could trace the line of affiliated bodies up to the national association and beyond that to UEFA and FIFA, once you are no longer a member of a club how can you take part?

It's all very well to say that we invest our emotions and are committed to the clubs we support, but to influence any organisation in the way you suggest you first have to become part of it.

Don't get me wrong. I have no time whatsoever for Blatter and Platini and all the pathetic politicking that takes place in order to get elected to these organisations and once elected your job is to commute around the world, attending all the top sporting events while staying in 5 star hotels and running up 6 figure expense bills.

However, I am less concerned about these guys as it has become clear that they are relatively powerless to change the key issues in the game. International corporate and employment laws make these guys virtually powerless. Football has gone way beyond the association stage and is big big business.

This may not make things better for us fans but in the context of your article, what's the point in having more of a say in organisations that are becoming more and more toothless every year?
