How can Portsmouth improve this summer?

As part of our 2006/2007 Premiership season-end review, here’s a look at how Portsmouth’s season went. Read up, then offer your own advice on how Portsmouth can improve this summer.

  1. Pre-season expectations: Barely escaping relegation, Portsmouth were looking at consolidating this season and making a move towards stability – however Harry Redknapp’s signings (James, Campbell) suggested that Portsmouth just may do better than people expected them to.
  2. Season evaluation: Portsmouth exceeded all expectations (only Reading have done better on a relative scale) with their 9th place – although at one time they were looking at a top-6 finish.
  3. The Big Negative: Hard to find a negative point here, but one weakness that Redknapp must address is to replace his older players in the next couple of seasons if Portsmouth are to move forward.
  4. The Big Positive: Portsmouth have the money to back their manager, which means that they can go ahead and bring in quality players to help the club challenge for a European spot next season.
  5. Summer Priority: Bring in at least 3 quality players – one each in defense, central midfield and attack.

Now it’s your turn: How do you think Portsmouth can improve this summer?
