After watching it again, the match was much closer than it looked the first time. Porto created good chances until the end, and ManU weren’t able to get a second safety goal that would have been very useful. Ronaldo’s goal was incredible, of course, but also more than a bit lucky, nobody, not even him, can do this on a regular basis.
One of Porto’s chances should also have been a penalty IMO. As I wrote on my site.

I don’t think Chelsea’s defense will be able to do the same number on Barca that United did. Keep in mind that Barca have improved since last season and Chelsea this season aren’t as good as Chelsea last season, let alone Manchester United last season or United this season.

Not an easy game for them. They have Essien though.

I have 10,000 ideas for gloating posts to put down Liverpool fans after the events of the last two days but that would be grossly unfair (not to mention premature). Next up, FA Cup semis while Liverpool rest up for next week’s PL game with Arsenal at Anfield (with Gerrard, Mascherano and Torres well rested and Arsenal playing on the weekend, that should be easier than Chelsea).

It has to be said, Porto looked way less impressive in this second leg. Maybe because Rio was back. Also probably because this time ManU meant business.
Hulk was horrible, much worse than in the first leg. A *big* disappointment.

It also has to be said, by now it’s probably clear, the Premier League rules Europe at the moment. They’ve beaten everybody who’s come their way, and pretty conclusively. It will be really interesting to see what Barca will be able to do against them. I personally hope for a Barca – ManU final, but the way Chelsea have progressed lately with Hiddink on the bench certainly nothing’s for granted.

Dan, I was surprised not to see Park’s name in there. Maybe he’s hurt. Ferguson did say that Park looked like he had nothing in the tank during the first leg, so maybe it’s fatigue. Anderson did a good job, though, so I guess Man Utd. fans can’t complain too much. I’m sure it would have been a flashpoint if they had lost and Anderson had played poorly.

A well deserved win for United, they were clearly the better team. Porto didn’t really have a clear cut chance but United could have had 3 easily. Manchester United are back!

Park played at Sunderland and I think the Villa game too, he played pretty crap in those games, also the system that was played today wasn’t really suited to Park, he’s not really a wide-playing winger or a sturdy midfielder (neither is Rooney, I know but he’s got the talent to pull it off) he’s more in between.

I know I’m going to ask this and get some stick, but has Park’s form been so bad that it warrants him not to be even named as a sub? Does he really offer nothing to the team that from time to time he is just outright omitted from selection, or is it simply because he’s injured? I am one to know he isn’t the crux of the team, but at the same time, what is it about his form that puts him in these kind of situations?
