Manchester City, Newcastle United, Celtic - please take Silvestre!

Written by Ahmed Bilal

Mikael Silvestre is a good defender - fast, reliable, able to play left back or center-back and very experienced. He’d be an excellent asset for any mid-table side in the top leagues in Europe. At United he’s part of Fergie’s support cast and does well when called upon.

Thing is, letting him go will give the kids at United more time on the pitch and save the club a tidy packet in wages. He’s not going to ‘replace’ Evra at any stage and with the form new boy Fabio has shown, letting Silvestre go would be the ‘thing to do’ for United.

Newcastle could always use another defender - really, they could - City are rumoured to be interested because of his pace and experience and Celtic were recently linked with Silvestre as well. Although he’s holding the kids back at United, he could be the defensive linchpin for a mid-table side to launch their campaign for Europe (or in Celtic’s case, help them improve in Europe).

So please - Manchester City, Newcastle, Celtic, anyone - buy Silvestre, match his wages and strengthen your squad. It’s the smart thing to do.

  1. Take John Oshea for free because he has no place in the MU team.Fergi shouldnt keep him at all because he is useless and lack pace and had shown no improvement at all.

  2. Sorry mate. With Barton bashing his best mate around he’s never going to SJP.

Fergie very rarely sells players who can play regardless of whether there in his plans. He’s the epitomy of a tight Scotsmen.

  3. The defence lacks cover as it is so selling Silvestre would be madness. Fabio is talented but we cannot rely on him and Mikael is a better left-back than O’Shea. And he’s a decent centre-back as well where we have only Evans and Brown…

  4. August 17, 2008 beyethegreat

i would happily tske both of those players but silvestre wouldnt come allardyce tried and silvestre rejected us as he does not like what barton did to dabo also instead of oshea i would preffer ferdinand rooney would be a good signing and ronaldo would also be a half decent signing
    lol

  5. Mikael won’t go to City - City are too big a club. Aren’t City a massive club? A massive club, City are.

  6. He could be good at Celtic, but we have lots of targets, his age may be a barrier for strachan as he is looking for many young players, which is quite evident by the names he has signed (Nobody older than 24 years old).

Faustino: say all you want about Scotsmen, but know that we are much smarter than the people that live in your country (See Scottish inventions - Google it!). He may be tight, but he is one of the smartest managers I’ve ever seen in my life.
