Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has secured an extension with the club according to Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos.

Towards the end of last season, it seemed like the 34 year old central midfielder would leave the club this summer, but after a conversation with Jose Mourinho he apparently signed a new deal with the Old Trafford club.

The 34 year old midfielder has spent a decade at Manchester United and was expected to leave if Louis Van Gaal had stayed.

The news of Carrick’s one year extension was first confirmed by the Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand. Now the Perth Glory executive has also confirmed the same news. The Australian outfit were hoping to sign Carrick this summer.

“It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia’s relationship with Michael,” Filopoulos told FourFourTwo.

“Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United.”

“We understand he’s now secured an extension with Manchester United so that’s off the table.”

Carrick is one of the finest English central midfielders of his generation and his experience will be a major plus for new manager Jose Mourinho. The 34 year old star also has a winning mentality and has lifted several trophies with Manchester United including the FA Cup, Premier League and the Champions League.
