Liverpool’s Pepe Reina - worth his weight in beer?
The Spain national football team’s sponsor, lager Cruzcampo, promised every member of the squad their weight in beer if they made it past the quarter finals of Euro 2008. The team well and truly kept its side of the bargain, and Cruzcampo has now delivered too.
The players had a special weigh-in to decide how much booze they would each get. Tipping the scales at 95kg, and walking away with the most beer, was Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina. Little Santi Cazorla only got 66kg worth, but he probably gets drunk quicker anyway!

awesome!
haha
I’d be walking away with out 270 kg of beer!
Pepe Reina is one of the worst goalkeepers i have ever seen stand between the sticks. Worth his weight in peanuts maybe but definetely not beer. Sweet cool beer.
Liverpool United, name me three keepers in the world who are better, with reasons why they are better.
He’s one of Liverpool’s most valuable players, if not the most valuable.
He almost plays as a sweeper, which allows us to play a very high defensive line, which is a very important aspect of Liverpool’s pressing defensive game. How Rafa Benetiz’s teams press the opposition when not in possession of the ball is perhaps the most important aspect of their game.
There isn’t a keeper in the world who is quicker than Pepe off his line to clean up in any dangerous situations. If you actually count the number of errors he makes that lead to goals, you’ll realise he makes close to the fewest mistakes of any keeper at a high level in the world. You probably remember about two or three mistakes he’s made in four seasons, but take more notice of the shite published in the British media.
He deals with crosses adequately, and that’s probably his biggest weakness. But he’s from from poor in this area.
He’s the equal of Casillas (if not better) but isn’t going to displace the national captain who’s in great form. Cech mkaes about double the amount of errors Reina does (still not many) and both often have little to do (although Reina is a more vital part of Liverpool’s back 5 than Chelsea’s).
In other words… you’re dead wrong and obviously don’t watch him play very often.
Reina is a very good keeper, he is too prone to errors and bad decision making. Majority of his clean sheets have been down to the defence rather than his skills. Van da sar is error prone too but the confidence he gives to fans and players alike is reassuring compared to Reina. My heart is in my mouth whenever a cross or corner or a free kick goes his way. How do you count errors? Only if the mistake ends up in a goal? How many times have you seen Reina flap only for his defenders to clear before his mistake prove costly? I dont think you count that do you? I watch every single Liverpool game thats why i can confidently say Reina sucks, but you are just a news flipper looking at statistics and judge players looking at statistics. Do statistics tell the entire truth? No they dont.I seen Carrager or Finnan dribble past 4 or 5 players fromt heir own half all the way up to the opposition half then pass the ball to Gerrard who just flicks it to Torres who scores and the assist has been entirely credited to Gerrard. But does your statistics tells you entire picture? I am not talking about numbers here. Apparently they make you happy but for me who actually watch a game i know how many times my testicles have shrunk in and out when Reina comes out for a corner or free kick. Petr Cech, Gigi Buffon Iker Casillas and Dida may have statistics against them but for me and for millions of people out there they give their team a sense of stabilty and security when they stand between the post. Put down the papers dude and go watch a Liverpool game.
@Liverpool United.
Three clean sheets records for the past three seasons says it all.
I go to every game and can tell you that he is a superb keeper. His shot-stopping is unreal. His penalty save average is superb and, believe it or not, he does instill confidence in the side; you’d see that if you were actually there.
Your use of the words ’suck’ and ‘dude’ imply to me that you are American therefore I highly doubt your knowledge of the game.
@liverpoolunited
carra or finnan dribble past 4 or 5 players? When was the last time you watched a game? Is this the same Finnan that now plays for Espanyol? But you watch every game dont you? suuure you do, hardcore you are!
Whopper!
@liverpoolunited
You are actually an embarassment to Liverpool. Pepe Reina is one of the best keepers to put on a shirt. Not just his ability but his commitment to the Liverpool cause, unlike alot of use i dont get to a game that often cos im from Belfast (goin on 26th vs Marseille) but i watch every full match that is shown and every highlight show shown. Highlight shows (such as motd) will jump at a chance to show off keeper howlers so the fact that i dont see every full game cannot be held against me. I can safely say i am 100% confident that Reina is the keeper for Liverpool. There has been quite alot said over the past about van der sar pulling out of saves refusing to get hurt there has never ever been a time i can say Reina lapped it. “The truth” summed him up perfectly only doubt is crosses however he has openly said in interviews that he prefers 2 punch the ball rather than catch hit and wen u can punch it to the halfway line to start a counter attack y wud u even consider catching it. I think u r the only Liverpool supporter in the world that wud make such a stupid comment.
If use r talking about premiere league here then use r completly missing the point there are two keepers that r without a doubt the best. Brad friedal and Shay Given they r conssistant in every game they play, and they dont have the millions of pounds in defence that Liverpool and Chelsea have. Also i want 2 get another thing straight Cech was an amazing keeper!! if use wan2 talk like that then lets go back to the late nineties and talk about Schmeichel. due to Cechs injuries he has not played as many games as before therefore i personally wud put riena friedal and given above him. U dont win the golden gloves in the last 3 seasons for nothing!! Stop talking this crap about prescence as well u really think ronaldo drogba or torres think about whos in the nets b4 they smash it in2 the top corner.

Maybe you want to take up some English lessons before you post here. use tostally no understando mate
Theres no spell checker on this (can c u might need it 2 there ba)!! & I aint english so i dont know any of ur gay english terms i just type the way i talk!!
Cech is rubbish, he uses dirty tactics like wearing excessively bright tops to put of strikers, and wears a head band so referees feel sorry for him when going to play the ball. If he is not fit enough to play then he shouldnt be on the pitch. you dont put an American football kit on the player. He used to be very good but now is just average, Reina is far better. Even Utd fans i know say he is better than Van der Sar & would love to have reina in their team, he reminds them of Schmeical
