Oxford, by BSP levels, are a very well supported club. The core base will always be there, but it's somewhat inevitable that if results drop off, so will the crowd. I've no doubt that if they could sort the stadium issue and get themselves onto a slightly more even keel (which, I suspect, will take many years) then they could be a bit of a force to be reckoned with. After all, they made it to the top flight once before, and the city does love its football.

It's the smaller clubs who try and stretch way beyond their means or grow far too quickly who have, and will continue to, face problems. Probably the best example of getting things right at Conference level are Burton.

Ahmed, from an Oxford fan, support is no problem; if you are referring to a fan base. We took twice as many to Kiddeminster last saturday that Fulham took to Blackburn three days ago. No one really knows what is going on but, as far as I can see, it is speculation arising from silence.

It's unfortunate but as Tim Vickery said in a recent BBC column, this is the price we pay for the globalisation of football. The small clubs must evolve and find more than 'local support' to grow / stay in the same place, otherwise they will be wiped out one by one.

It's worth just adding to the above that since I wrote this last night, BBC Oxford have been told that the owners are not considering putting the club in administration:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/o/oxford_utd/7631116.stm

It's still a tad tricky to get an exact grip on what's going on at Oxford, but even if the majority of the debts are soft loans, the club is still losing money and looks to be heading for serious financial difficulties if it can't turn things around (assuming, of course, they're not in serious financial difficulties already. It's difficult to tell exactly what's happening).
