United's best performer this season

Manchester United star David de Gea has backed incoming manager Louis van Gaal to bring great things at Old Trafford.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager will take the role at Old Trafford once he finished the World Cup campaign with the Holland national side. The 62-year-old will replace David Moyes after the former Everton manager was shown the exit door just 10 months into his six year contract.

The Red Devils had a poor season under Moyes as they finished seventh in the league table. United are out of the Champions League and are ineligible to feature even in the Europa League.

De Gea is currently with the Spain squad and his national side will take on Van Gaal’s Dutch team for the World Cup opening fixture on Friday. However, the United stopper is unlikely to get a call from Vicente del Bosque as he would prefer Iker Casillas

“He [Van Gaal] is a coach who’s won the lot. He’s an excellent manager and I think he’s going to bring great things to Manchester United; important, innovative things that will do us the world of good. He’s going to help us a lot because he’s going to bring a different playing style with him,” De Gea told the Spanish newspaper Marca.

“I’ve been working for years to get to this moment (after having a good season with United), always giving 100%. At the end of the day it’s a prize and I want to enjoy it,” the Spaniard concluded.

All hopes will be on Van Gaal to turn things around at Old Trafford after their disaster season. Meanwhile, United have not made any additions to their existing squad in the summer transfer window, despite several players being constantly being linked with the Red Devils.
