On Beckham training with Arsenal - a Manchester United fan’s view

Becks

I got the news the other morning when I turned on my computer and checked The Sun website for some fun articles. And there he was. Beckham in a black or navy sweatshirt with ‘Fly Emirates’ written all across it in golden letters.

Surely that was have the work of a journalist who played with photos to make some kind of sinister joke, but, in the background, jumping with joy, was none other than that insufferable little prick, Fabregas.

Then, the words caught my attention, “It’s Fab! Becks joins Arsenal.” Disaster! How could he? The prick is the reason I became a Manchester United fan in the first place. He is like a hero to me; when I was a little kid I wanted to become just like him, and now he joins that club. The one club which I cannot stand.

I understand that he is not about to turn out for the Arsenal and that he is just keeping fit in a bid to gain his well deserved 100th cap, but still… how could he!?

On top of that Wenger comes out and say that Becks “has always loved Arsenal.” Okay, I must realize that this is The Sun talking, but it still pains me very much. After all how much can he love Arsenal? He was a Tottenham trainee and came very, very close to becoming a Manchester United legend.

But, um… am I going crazy or is it really a calamity that he will be on friendly terms with the likes of Arsene and Persie for the next month or so? I do not think many Manchester United fans were pleased when they found out about it.

  1. So, what’s the problem?
As you can see on the pictures…he is really happy about this.
The best training facilities in the world and he has also the opportunity to train with the best!

    Oh mate, sort it out!

  3. I’d like to have seen him training with the United team, while he boosts his fitness. But if the offer wasn’t there from United. Then why shouldn’t he train i

To be honest, it really doesn’t bother me who he’s training with. Becks will always hold a place in the heart for me. He was part of one of the greatest ever midfields in world football. very very close to becoming a United legend? Personally, and i think a lot of fans will agree with me, he’s already gained a level of greatness with the club. Part of the great youth team of ‘92. His football was fantastic. Whilst not being much of a wing wizard like Giggsy, Becks could land the ball on a 5p coin 50 yards away! Lethal right boot when it came to long range shooting, crossing and free kicks. A very special player who gave his all no matter what club he was with. Totally commited when out on the field, a great professional!

Who cares if he’s on friendly terms with Wenger, Van Persie or Fabregas? He’s nothing to do with United now. We have a new generation of talented youngsters emering into a truly great force, that will be capable of competing in England and Europe in the next 10 years or so!

Please try not to use The Sun as a reliable source. Take everything with a bucket full of salt! Let Becks train with Arsenal. I’d have felt a bit more saddened if it had been Liverpool!

On another note - if you were handed a month’s worth of training with Arsenal, would you turn it down? Despite my United allegiance, i couldn’t turn down an offer like that!

  4. You sad little idiot. Judging by your own words you must now be an LA Galaxy fan?

  5. you use the word prick without any connection to what you are saying which is bad writing. Anyway - who cares if Beckham trains with Arsenal, Wimbledon or Man Utd. Just because he made his name at Man Utd does not mean he has to oblige them by returning to their ground to train etc. Believe it or not most footballers are not so petty minded as you

I think its also about the academies. Beckham will consider any time spent under Wenger to be an education, some of which he can apply to his academy at a later date. It is also possible, thought less likely, Arsenal may use the Beckham academies as a feeder?? or at least have first refusal. And Beckham may in fact be paying Arsenal for the privelege. All this as well as keeping fit for England.

  7. Your overeacting man - He won’t play for us and will only train with the first-team 2 or three times anyways.. How gives a shit!

How could that backstabbing SOB do such a thing?
Really? I’m deeply hurt and betrayed by all this BS about Becks training for Arsenal and all this Crap Wenger’s saying about how David LOVES Arsenal.
And yet here’s the funny thing about all this…I recently read on Manchester United’s official website that they want this Backstabbing SOB to join them as an Ambassador?
Gee….that’s like asking Ruud Van Nistelrooy to go to Africa and represent Manchester United.
What the hell is this crap anyway?
I guess all that talk of Beckham always loving Manchester United is a crock of BS all along.
    Really David….GET A GODDAMN LIFE!
And as for Manchester United….KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER AMBASSADOR….Cause in my books United…..you’ve been dealing with way too many backstabbers as of late.
David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, soon to be Wes Brown who has a contract pending…but hasn’t gotten around to signing it yet…..and the list goes on and on….Pretty soon Manchester United will be releasing a book entitled “Manchester United’s Trust In BackStabbers”
Sounds Like a pretty good read to me!

I’d get over it mate, he’s only training. And so what if he is on friendly terms with Weer or Van Persie? Don’t you think footballers from different clubs are not friends with eachother? You know maybe Giggsy is on friendly terms with a coupe of City players? It’s a game and the rivalry is huge but don’t let it get out of proportion, it’s not life or death.
Beckham is not a United legend? I would of thought he was he won shitloads with you guys and was a model professional. Even as a Gooner I can look at someone like him, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Ronaldo, Cantona the list goes on all day and still admire and respect them as the great players they. You need to get a grip son ;)

  10. If Fabergas is a “insufferable little prick” what the fuck is C.Ronaldo?

  11. who cares? i would train with the gunners if i had a chance!

  12. “the prick is the reason i became a united “fan” in the first place”
    ————————–
If thats really true sir, then Beckham isnt the only “prick” around here.

Omfg dat pic fkn ruined my day! I mean the dark facial hair with light colourd hair is a turn off and tht jumper is woah..even wrse!!

& RE: to ppl who say wtf is ronaldo?

Well he is the best player in the world. Go fkn look at da stats. Last season and this season. Go compare tht to fabregas and den come bak nd tlk wankers.

  14. Shohan khan,
Obviously you have never heard of lionel messi or kaka, ronaldo is close but not quite the best. he is a great player but the man is a prick and a bit of a cheat.
    All MU fans,
Who cares about Becks training with Arsenal, the training ground is close to his house with top standard facilities and top coaches-what he needs. Furthermore, if you have ever seen arsenal play, they demand respect from anybody and have got to be one of the fittest teams in the world.

  15. Well, so I see it is not the end of the world that he joined Arsenal in training, but I suppose that the reason I saw this as disastrous was because I always associated Beckham to United and even when he was gone to Madrid, I still made a connection between the two. Now that I saw him in an Arsenal shirt, that connection is gone.

    To answe some questions:

-no, I am not an LA Galaxy fan. I am a Man Utd fan and in the MLS the team of my choice is Toronto FC, but I do not often watch MLS.

-Joeyboy, Ronaldo is a prick of equal measure, but he can be excused on *my* account because: a)he is better than Fabregas; b) and, more importantly, he is a Man Utd player. (I have often admitted to being a hypocrite when it comes to football and you cannot deny being one yourself)

-I would definetely train with the Gunners if only they made me an offer, but if I had other options (such as Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle) I would put Arsenal as the last option.

-some footballers ARE friends with players from other clubs and that is totaly acceptable. Rooney and Gerrard are frieds and Lampard is a Man Utd fan (did you know?).

I think Gooner16 makes sense in saying that Arsenal can keep players fit better than other clubs. The level of fitness in the Arsenal players is astounding.

  16. You’re evidently not english
a player training with a team so he can keep his value to his national team is a player to be applauded and definitely not booed

Training with arsenal is not helping arsenal in any way, wenger wants to see becks back to his best and he wants to see england performing so he does what he can to help it happen

You’re either american or canadian, thus you live atleast 5000 km. away from Arsenal or Manchester and you demonstrate it with the fact that you support a team because of one former player. I like Edgar Davids alot but I’ve never supported AC Milan, Ajax, Inter Milan, Juventus, Spurs or Barcelona.

He is not helping Arsenal in any way, shape or form, if anything and I mean anything he’s a liability, more press and a tiny bit less focus on Arsenal’s players and a tiny bit more on him.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Yanks don’t understand football and before you say anything neither do Canadians.

  17. January 13, 2008Shohan Khan

    Re Gooner16

I don’t think you have watched Man United vs Newcastle :)

  18. January 16, 2008another gooner

    anyway arsenal rule!!!!

  19. Nope, I am neither Canadian, nor American, peejay. I am quite European. I agree that he should be applauded for keeping his fitness up for the benefit of the nation, but he will not get any praise from me - because he chose Arsenal.
