Newcastle’s move for Liverpool’s Crouch is a joke, right?

I mean…COME ON!

The news doing the rounds is that Liverpool are lining up a recruit of the likes of David Villa (or Darren Bent, who sounds much more likely) and to make such a deal happen they’ll ship out Peter Crouch, who has fallen behind Bellamy and Kuyt in the striking pecking order at Anfield.

That brings two questions up.

One – why the hell would Villa move to Liverpool? This would be possible only if Pool were prepared to pay him high wages, not to mention a hefty transfer fee. Neither are possible given Liverpool’s current financial situation, so a move for El Guaje seems highly unlikely. Then again, Benitez has already said that they won’t move for Villa in January, so that’s that. Villa reportedly also has a 100 mil buyout clause in his contract.

Two – Crouch is an excellent impact player for Liverpool and works great with the team – why would Benitez sell him? Yes, he has to make space for new recruits but the most likely player to be jettisoned should be Robbie Fowler, and I’m not certain Crouch would grumble at being 4th striker at Liverpool as compared to third striker at Newcastle (behind Martins and Owen), given that he’ll have a shot at playing in the Champions League with Liverpool.

Not happening folks, at least not in January.

Not a joke, just the invention of some hack with a column to fill and no news to fill it with, possibly in league with an agent whose wallet needs topping up. Read the comments of Roeder, Benitez, and Crouch himself. Non starter.

  2. SIR Gerrard Gerrard

see my post about Villa (chelsea or Liverpool)

and do you know anything about spanish football??? no you dont if you did you would know that every player who plays in spain must by law have a buyout clause in there contract and even Gimnastic have players who’s have a buy-out clause in there contract take Irurzun for example he is a striker for them and has a 75million euro buy-out clause (so what).

Rafa says he wont bid, end of that..ok but Crouch said he is not leaving and Roeder said he is not after him but yet you have still made this article??????? why????

Well it may not happen but Crouch will not be happy if he continues to be warming the bench on a regular basis at Liverpool. As for being third choice at Newcastle behind Martins and Owen? err….. no, he would be playing alongside one of them you muppet, he’d be guarenteed a start if fit. Still can’t see it happening though.

You seem to forget about our proposed takeover (which is almost certain to happen) when you talk about our ‘current financial situation’. This will mean we have the financial capabilities to afford wages and transfer fees someone like Villa would command. I think it shows ignorance to ask, ‘why the hell would Villa move to Liverpool’. Bearing in mind the fact that we have a number of players/staff from Spain already (2 of whom he is very close friends with) and the fact that we’re a very good, young side who are on the way up, as well as the fact that we are the most successful English side, not only in history, but also in the last 5 years (as in we’ve won the most trophies), and we have one of the world’s best managers at the helm, and the fact that we’ve got one of the world’s largest and most respected fanbases…. and maybe, just maybe you can understand why the thought of moving to Liverpool might appeal to David Villa.

I’m pretty amazed with Rafa. He signed Crouch to win the away games and he is hardly playing. I did manage to see him against Bolton. Glad to see him score. I couldn’t find the Liverpool games especially the 7:45 a.m. games on tv this year. Recently a friend of mine told me about http://www.socceronitvn.com though and now I can see the games Fox can’t show through my broadband connection and Setana on my telly.

As Setanta is an Irish firm they show the Reds a lot. Did you hear the rumours about Beckham of all people?
