Newcastle Manager Joe Kinnear Reveals His January Targets

Premier League club Newcastle United might still be struggling both on the pitch and off it but it appears that club manager Joe Kinnear has already made it certain who he is going to sign in January.

Kinnear has declared in The People that he shall sign two non-Premier League defenders as he feels, and feels all so rightly, that Newcastle’s main problem is in the defence. Furthermore, the former Wimbledon boss, who has been confirmed to stay on as the manager of Newcastle until the end of the season, has named the players who he wants to sign.

Kinnear said, “Lucas Mareque is a player we are looking to bring in from Independiente in the January transfer window and we are trying to find out what that would entail. He is 6ft 2ins and height is something we could do with in our back four. We have looked at the way our own Argentinians, Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini, have settled in. We have spoken to them about Mareque and they have given us glowing reports.”

So it appears that Newcastle are set to have another Argentine in their squad. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

Joe Kinnear has also named the Hearts left-back David Obua as someone whom he would be interested in. He had this to say about the 24-year old Ugandan international:

“We are also monitoring the situation at Hearts with their left-back David Obua, but like a lot of other clubs we’re monitoring a lot of players.”

Seems like Newcastle are not afraid to look overseas to try and save their Premier League status. Maybe that would help them survive in the English top flight…..
