Newcastle cannot, should not, dare not, sell Owen to Spurs
In some ways Michael Owen has been a liability at St James’ Park – sky-high wages and repetitive injuries, not to mention his burning ambitions to play in Europe and win league titles (no offense but I think he knows that’s not happening with Newcastle this decade) which has created a LOT of speculation around his future.
If you throw in the latest delays over his contract renegotiation, one wouldn’t be surprised if Owen was linked to other clubs every week (which he is).
However, there are 3 very good reasons why he shouldn’t be sold:
1 – When fit, he’s their best chance for a goal – and Newcastle will need to score a lot more than last season if they want to improve.
2 – With his injury problems, he’s not going to fetch a high price – why sell a player for peanuts when you could work on getting him fit and scoring goals for you? 20 goals from Owen are worth more than 10m at this point.
3 – There’s no time left to reinvest. Even if Spurs were to cough up 10m+ (unlikely), where would Keegan spend that money? We’ve seen how difficult it can be for clubs to sign players with only 2 weeks left, and Newcastle wouldn’t want to be left in a weaker position at the start of the season.

Well if he want to win titles or get in the Champions league then he might aswell stay put. Spurs have no chance of either.
He may have been made of glass but why would he want to go to the Yid’s for european football? There hardly challenging for european places season after season and having sold there ”Magical” Robbie to the mickey mousers and Berbs is obviously going to the scum you haven’t exactly got the pedigree to be challenging this season either have you!! A move to bandit country in London wouldn’t be the best move for him or his asperations now would it??
why would spurs waste there money on a person who sits on the physo bench all season long, bleeding the club dry with his huge wage demand!!!
let owen stay at newcastle, he is the epitamy of what is wrong with the club, money being thrown at a broken dream.
The front wheel skids wont be challenging for nothing this year.
“The front wheel skids wont be challenging for nothing this year”
….so we will be challenging for something then??
another easy 6 pts from spurs again
Gazza
Waddle
Fox
Ginola
Ferdinand
Jenas
(oh and the great Kevin Scott!) lol
Spurs have a history of signing NUFC’s best players so wouldn’t be surprised should this move go through.
If spurs are daft enough to sign him for even 5 million I’d be happy enough. Michael Owen has NEVER wanted to play for Toon. Deep down we all know know it and we all know that he is a waste of space.
You can argue that when he’s fit he is as good as anyone in the world but when you consider the it has cost the club so far 12m in wages plus the 15m transfer fee for what amounts to a player who ended up being worse than Bellamy in terms of what we got in return.
It was bad business to sign him and if we can bring in Saviola as it looks like KK is planning on doing then we should sell Owen. KK has already said he wants players who want to play for NUFC…..if that’s really true then it should be bye bye Michael.
He won’t sign a new contract because he wants the big pay day when his contract runs out….he might look like butter wouldn’t melt in his gob but he’s going to go on a bosman if we don’t sell him now.
Spurs do need Michael Owen. It is so important to keep King and Woody company when they are injured…..Owen is history…Spurs need a Huntelaar..
