Nani’s Wonder Goal, and it WAS NOT handball

We’ve been waiting for this one for quite a while, and what a cracker this was.

I’m not surprised at the fact that Paul Robinson was caught so far off his line that could easily float (whack rather) it over him, but what did impress me was Nani’s awareness – he picks up the ball, turns around and looks up, sees Robbo and immediately let’s it rip.

Few players have that sort of confidence and while we’ve been critical of his mistakes so far this season (and this one goal doesn’t mean he’s cured of them), he has shown so far that he has the potential to be another great winger and today’s goal shows again that he’s got a good future ahead of him.

Nani’s goal video

The most controversial incident of the game was the ‘block’ by Wes Brown that Tottenham players claimed was a penalty.

I’d advise you to download the clip here and see it for yourself again before you go by anyone else’s opinion. Brown throws himself to the ground in the path of the ball and it touches his side, not his chest and not the upper part of his arm (as some people have suggested).

It’s a very tough decision to give for the referee (even for someone that was so close to the incident) and not only was there enough doubt when it happened in real time for the ref not to give it, it was quite clearly not a handball when you see it on the replay.

Fergie’s comment summed it up well – the way the Spurs players went up for it, everyone in the stadium, even United players, would have thought that it was a penalty. It wasn’t though, so that’s that.

Tough game for both sides but well done to Tottenham for fighting hard and I suppose this could have easily been a draw or a 1-1 score. It still wasn’t a penalty though.

I predicted 4-0 for United i guess i over estimate them sometimes :) if feels good for a new signing to score doesn’t it?

I was watching the game live and on the first replay itself i could see that it clearly hit the side of his chest and not his arm. I for the life of me cant figure out why even after 5 replays andy gray still said it was ! i was wondering if we were seeing the same incident and if it was so clear to me what the hell was so confusing for people to see in the replay ?

I have got to admit I to was amazed at ANdy Grays assessment of Browns actions, it clearly came off his chest yet Andy G was almost willing the ref to blow. It almost become laughable when he was trying to justify his stance as a result of Robbie Keanes reacation, for Fec sake RK was playing for THFC. Mark my words AG is quite different when LFC play, I’d go as far as to say he has a LFC bias.

the nani goal was good but it clearly deflected off of tevez. still a screamer though.

i thought my boys played like slop today. ferdinand and evra were horrible and turned out lucky.

berbatov is pretty amazing. i dont understand what he was doing near the midfield line near the end of the game though.

haha yeah. . i didn’t get how it was a clear cut penalty. . i mean it was definetly debatable. . i could see how it could have been given, but lets be honest, it was never going to happen at Old Trafford

The goal was no wonder strike. It took a clear deflection off tevez and thats why it beat Robinson who truth be told had strayed off his line. It was ironic that Nani who till then was specializing in running, falling and screaming out, scored. And to me it looked like it hit Brown’s arm, not his chest. The look on Brown’s face after the assistant had waved the appeals for the penalty also helps……………

You cant touch Man U or Liverpool especially in the home grounds. Look what happended to the referee who gave a penalty against Liverpool. The same logic applies to why the penalty wasnt given……..

“It was ironic that Nani who till then was specializing in running, falling and screaming out, scored.” It just an example how a stupid commentator can influence stupid fans. throughout the game andy gray kept commenting on how nani was falling over too easy .. fucking bullshit. How was nani falling all over the place ? the 3 times he got fouled, once he got smacked in head, once he got kneed in the back and the other time he was clearly pushed in the back. Just because andy gray says he is rolling around doesnt make it true and i think he proved he talks shit from his comments on the penalty call.

iqnadirshah – dude that wasn’t unbiased at all – you’re entitled to your opinion but if you’re fooling yourself then that just undermines your point.

vishnu – you can read the match on redrants, I was out so I didn’t get to watch the match, just caught a few highlights.

I’ll do the weekend review in a bit though.

Whatever you say guys. I didnt say who was the better team or who deserved to win, just about the goal and the penalty appeal. How many times did nani clutch one part of his body and wail? The goal saved his skin though……….

United won a game this season, And Spurs did’nt.

All this about Spurs finishing above Arsenal, looks not likely at all, I knew this vefore the seasons start. Tierry Was not 11 men.

But, OH MY FUCKING GOD! What a nice goal from Nani, Well done.

[...] Finally a win for Fergie’s men, and a great goal from Nani. You can catch a detailed match report later today from Red Rants, and you can grab the Nani goal video and the Brown ‘handball’ incident (it wasn’t a penalty) here. [...]

It wasn’t a penalty? Are you blind or something? Ball hit his hand on its way to the back of the net. Crystal Clear.

Mr Lakso. If someones hand is situated on the top left hand side of his chest then he should be in the special olympics and not the premier league….

Did anyone watch match of the day :) it shows a slow mo replay close up it is clearly off his side

Yeh nanis goal was kinda good :) but if Gerrard or Lampard scored one like that it wouldn’t get any notice because they score better ones than that all the time!

Doesn’t take away the fact that it was a good goal that will boost uniteds confidence!

“Brown throws himself to the ground in the path of the ball, and it either touches his side, not his chest and not the upper part of his arm (as some people have suggested).”

That’s not a sentence. Either his side or what?

Yea, the ‘either’ was not supposed to be there.

Liverpool_Fan.. Robinson got a hand to it, you never know. That slight touch may have been the difference between Nani scoring and Robinson touching it round the post for a corner.. I’d like to see some random technology that would predict where it was going if Tevez hadn’t touched it. Not that it’ll make a difference, I just want to know!
