According to reports in the Italian media, there has been friction between Roma and Cagliari over Radja Nainggolan. The Sardinians are reluctant to accept Roma’s 10 million euro offer for the complete ownership of the Belgian midfielder.

Liverpool transfer news

Cagliari President claimed today that the offer is “too low” and that Roma would have to increase their offer considerably to own the player completely. Nainggolan has been sensational for the Italian side this season and has attracted a lot of interest from several European heavyweights including Arsenal and Liverpool.

While any transfer could be complicated by his ownership issues, speculation is rife that Nainggolan could be on his way to the Premier League if Roma fail to convince Cagliari soon.

Liverpool have been reportedly monitoring the situation with Nainggolan and are ready to make an offer for the combative midfielder this month. The Reds have lacked a powerful presence at the heart of their midfield and the impending departure of Steven Gerrard at the end of this season has accelerated Liverpool’s efforts to search for a suitable replacement.

With the likes of Allen and Lucas failing prove their worth for the Merseyside outfit, it is believed that manager, Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a central midfielder soon. Although Liverpool are desperately crying out for a defensive midfielder and Nainggolan is far from a specialist in that position, he would bring a powerful and composed presence at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.

Also, his defensive qualities, similar to that of Emre Can, would ensure greater protection for the Liverpool defence, which has been exposed time and again. Nainggolan also brings with himself a wealth of experience needed to replace the likes of Gerrard and offers a great deal going forward, unlike Lucas and Allen.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can land their man, considering the fact that neither the player, nor his club are keen on the move. But Nainggolan is the type of player who could improve the Reds, not just short term, but continue to help the side for a good few years as well.
