Jose Mourinho targets title with Manchester United this season

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is targeting to win the Premier League title with Manchester United in the 2016-17 season and admitted that he is not afraid to express his ambitions.

The 53-year-old was appointed as the Red Devils manager in May and he took charge at Old Trafford in July. He replaced Louis van Gaal after the Dutchman was relieved from his duties just days after he helped them win the FA Cup.

It was United’s first silverware since they won the Premier League title in 2013. It was under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson and since the Scot announced his retirement, the 20-time English champions has not won the title.

United struggled under David Moyes and Van Gaal, where they failed to challenge for the title in the last three years. However, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea wants the Red Devils to be title contenders this season.

“We feel that we are a candidate to win the title. We want to fight for the title,” Mourinho said.

“We know that not one or two, or three more than that have the same ambitions as us. Many more they think the same way as us but they are afraid to say it.

“They prefer not to say that, they prefer to play a defensive game in words. They prefer to say, or to hide or to play defensively with the words, that’s not our way. I don’t think that’s Man United.

“At the end of the season if we are not champions because someone is better than us then great, that’s football.

“But at Manchester United Football Club you cannot say differently, we are going to fight for the title. We cannot speak differently. I think Man United has to say we want to win the title.

“We have all the respect for the others and maybe we don’t win, maybe we arrive end of season and happy to finish top four. It depends on how season goes. But in this moment when I speak to you, I also speak to my players too, and I cannot speak differently.”
