Mourinho’s move to Madrid moves ever closer as Pellegrini is finally axed

Possibly one of the biggest certainties in football is coming ever closer to fruition. Jose Mourinho will leave his newly crowned European champions to take prime place in the hot seat of the world’s biggest football club after Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez confirmed during a news conference on Wednesday that Chilean Manuel Pellegrini has been dismissed.

Fifty-six year old Pellegrini has only spent a single season in charge at The Santiago Bernabeu following his arrival last summer from Villarreal where a wealth of star talent was left at his disposal following Florentino Perez’s spending spree which saw him smash the world transfer record twice to lure Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo to Spain.

Despite Los Blancos ending the season trophy-less, Pellegrini won 36 of his 48 games in charge earning him a win percentage of 75%. Real also gained 96 points in The Primera Division which broke the points tally record of 92 which was established by Fabio Capello’s side in 1997. Unfortunately for The Whites their rivals from Catalonia bettered them by three points to retain their La Liga crown.

Jose Mourinho’s season in Italy is a stark contrast to Madrid. He has steered Internazionale to a domestic and European treble where the Nerazzurri completed this marvellous feat last Saturday after beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in what will be his new home, The Santiago Bernabeu.

Florentino Perez has stressed Madrid’s intention of installing the ‘special one’ as their new manager after thanking Pellegrini for his contribution. The stumbling block now is to reach an agreement with Massimo Moratti and Inter to register the release of their prized asset.

Perez said:

“The board also agreed to contract Jose Mourinho as the new coach of Real Madrid once his contractual relationship with Inter Milan has been resolved.”

“We are 100% behind the need for a change and we are very happy that Jose will be the man to take over the reins at Real Madrid.”

Mourinho is contracted to the San Siro for another two years but has a release clause of €16million which would see him released of his contract if Madrid choose to.

Former politician Perez is under no doubt that the 47 year old is the right man to bring a vision of success back to the nine time European cup winners.
