MLS and US Soccer News

US soccer blog, StateSideFooty, has had a successful first couple of weeks, getting a mention on the ESPN blogs and dozens of emails from MLS and US soccer fans writing in to compliment Danny and Brian on their new venture.

Not all new blogs thrive (or even survive) in the long run, but the way SSF has taken off and built a readership, I’m sure that it will become the best source for MLS news and US national team news in the next 12 months.

Here is a quick look at the latest news from SSF:

  • Hamm and Foudy Enter Hall of Fame

Wow, what a slow day. There is not too much news, and it’s especially quite on the European front. You would think that with the transfer deadline closing in that many teams would be scrambling to make last minute changes. But things are too quiet, so maybe things will explode for the [...]

  • U-17 Advances To Second Round

I don’t know how they did it. But they did it, and that’s all that matters. The US u-17 soccer team shocked US Soccer fans everywhere by advancing to the round of 16 after defeating Belgium 2-0 on Sunday. The US needed help from Tunisia and they got it after Tunisia defeated Tajikistan. Their…

  • Clint Dempsey Scores As Fulham Lose Again

Happy Saturday to everyone. It was a busy day in the Premiership for our American players. Another American goalkeeper face-off in the Blackburn vs Everton game. Both let in only one goal. I can’t comment on how they played, as I wasn’t able to watch the game and haven’t seen any [...]

  • Denilson To Join FC Dallas

FC Dallas announced Thursday that they have signed Brazilian star Denilson to a long term contract. The deal has been speculated for months now, and it has finally happened. FC Dallas head coach was very excited by the move. “”We are extremely excited to be able to add a world-class player like…

  • McBride Out Until Christmas

Fulham captain and striker Brian McBride will be out until Christmas, according to team officials. McBride is back in the US, after having surgery to repair the dislocated kneecap. Tough break for him, as he was named captain just this year, and the injury came on his 100th appearance for the club.…

  • USA Falters Again In u-17 World Cup

What can I say? Seems like another USA team that we’ve hyped as ready to win something big, and they blow it. It’s incredibly disappointing, because we’re so ready for a championship team, and we always come up short. I think it might be time to stop hyping our teams as world beaters, until we…

  • Keller Signs With Fulham

Big news out of England today as American keeper Kasey Keller has signed with Fulham of the English Premier League. Keller, who last played with Borussia Mönchengladbach, was very excited to complete this move. “It’s fantastic to be back in the Premier League after a couple of years’ absence…

  • Moreno Goes Top of the Record Books

DC United 3 - New York 1DC continued its winning streak last night to 4 games, also capturing the Atlantic Cup. Red Bulls defender Hunter Freeman had one of those games he’d like to forget. In DC’s first goal, Troy Perkins launched a long ball which Freeman misjudged allowing Fred in on goal.…

  • USA Goes Down to Sweden

The Men’s National Team continued their bad form in Europe with a loss to Sweden earlier today. The starting line-up had to be changed at the last minute as Brian Ching was a late scratch with a groin injury. He was replaced in the starting eleven by Benny Feilhaber. I didn’t expect [...]

  • Team America to Play Tomorrow

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of silence. Most competitive leagues were off today due to the international break, which is why there was no update earlier today. Literally, nothing happened. Some of the European countries held U-21 matches today, which are usually a good chance to look at the…
