was a great match to watch and well done to the MLS for progressing so well and quickly however, where on earth where west hams first eleven? i can think of at least 6-8 first team players missing... dont want to take anything away from the MLS but these games seem to be making the American soccer fans to get ahead of yourselves a little. how about a MLS Premiership V's MLS All Star game?? should be fun lol! and if english teams are goin to American can we stop embarassing ourselves with these promotional games and play a full strength team for once?

It was a good match. I live in Chicago but I support West Ham during the winter so I didn't know what side to go for. Blanco's goal and assist were perfect though, I can't see how any can say he's over the hill.

True, West Ham didn't have a lot of their best players available last night. But, they put forth a fairly strong team that certainly didn't want to lose to a bunch of MLS guys.

As for Scott Parker, there's no question he's a quality player who isn't afraid of confrontation (btw, thanks for the video of Parker taking out Joe Cole - that brought a smile to my face). I was just making a point about how he seemed to bail out of a 50-50 when, last year, Steve Sidwell had no qualms about taking on Beckham, the $250 million man. I certainly didn't mean to say that Parker was inferior just because he made less money. I think Beckham's track record speaks for itself. Doesn't mean Parker won't be a great player someday. Beckham is just a little higher on the totem pole right now.

As for West Ham, the only way they'll break the notion that they are a mediocre club will be if they start putting forward consistent results year-in and year-out and compete for European slots. I think they have talent, but they need to learn how to be more consistent. One week, they can beat Man U. The next week, they're losing to Sunderland or Wigan. Maybe this will be their year. Who knows?

First of all I want to thank you for writing this. I didn´t have had the oppurtunity to watch the game and your blog was nice to read.
But secondly I´m sorry to disappoint all you U.S. "soccer" fans, but what you have seen of West Ham is more likely their B-squad. You missed the likes of 8 times capped english defender Mattew Upson, Freddie Ljungberg (75 caps for Sweden), your homegrown lad Johnathan Spector (11caps), english super talent Mark Noble (9 caps U-21), new mega-signing Valon Berahmi (19 caps for Switzerland), West Ham-hatched Kieron Dyer (33 caps for England) and of course Craig Bellamy (49 caps for Wales). Forgot to mention Lee Bowyer, who also alredy played international.
West Ham is no longer a mediocre Premier League club. Enomous investments have been taken along the last 5 years. According to "The League" West Ham is one of the 50 richest clubs in Europe. Only the players you didn´t see, I listed above, sum up a current market value of about 63 Million U.S.$.
Concerning Scott Parker you might be interested to know that this bloke usually gives a s about how much the his opponents feet might be worth. At least when it comes to league games. 2seasons ago, when he was playing for Newcastle, he tackled Joe Cole so badly, that it became my favourite tackling ever. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_tdBdoCA5s&feature=related).
Don´t get me wrong I´m really delighted that U.S. football is developing that great, but it´s still a long way until they reach the level of European football.
It was just a test game for West Ham. They won the last 2 preperation games and didn´t have to proof theiselves. This sort of games are only for 2 reasons. For marketing and for training. For both sides it´s a profit-profit business. A lot more Americans will get to know WHUFC and still keep their fans´ belief in the quality in their national MLS. What you´ve seen of West Ham is nothin compared to what they´re capable of when it gets down to business.

MLS is really showing their true skills in comparison to the European leagues.

LOL Way To funny...... We are in mid season so we should be fitter, they are in pre-season. I gotta say GREAT game, well done West Ham an average EPL team almost beat our best. LOL

Toja was actually one of the more impressive players for the MLS side. Good technical touches, and lots of ideas in the final third.

Angel looked onside on the goal that was called back.

Ashton looks ready for a big EPL season!

Outstanding, cracking affair. Much better than the match I attended two years ago between a depleted MLS all star team who had six starters pull out because of injuries and scheduling snafus and a disinterested Chelsea team that was looking to get on the next flight back to London. MLS won that snoozer 1-0. This game on the other hand was a thrilling affair.
