It seems like Chelsea have not done with signing players from Atletico Madrid, the reigning La Liga champions. If the reports are to be believed, it’s only a matter of time before Diego Costa officially becomes a Chelsea player and likewise, deals for Tiago Mendes and Filipe Luis are close as well.

And now they’re looking to sign Atletico Madrid’s highly rated defender Miranda, who is one of the top targets of Premier League rivals Manchester United.

In the last week of May, Spanish newspaper AS reported that Manchester United were closing in on Miranda, who reportedly had started looking schools for his children in Manchester.

United were ready to trigger his €30m buy-out clause, while the 29-year-old admitted back in the early June that he has had offers from both England and Spain.

Again, Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported that Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent was negotiating a deal with Manchester United and that a move could be on the cards.

Barcelona were reportedly keen to secure his services with Catalan newspaper Sport claiming the Blaugrana were confident of luring him for a much lower price, within €20m region.

Now, Catalan newspaper Sport reporting today that Chelsea are taking a keen interest in him, while the Brazilian defender prefers a move to London in the summer. Atletico’s president is adamant that he will only let players leave for their buyout clauses which means either Chelsea, Manchester United or Barcelona will have to pay €30m in order to land him in the summer.

Chelsea have other defensive targets as well like Mehdi Benatia, so it remains to be seen whether they are ready to invest heavily on Miranda or not.
