Serie A Roundup: Milan Derby Draw; Juventus, Roma record wins

The weekend in the Serie A brought a lot of close counters but the talking point was certainly the Milan derby. Both the sides gave a good account of themselves in front of the packed San Siro on Sunday evening’s encounter. While Juventus cruised past Lazio on Saturday and Roma digging out a tough earned away win at Atalanta, Napoli rued missed opportunities as they drew with Cagliari by a 3-3 scoreline.

We here at Soccerlens bring you the roundup from all the Serie A action from game-week 12.

Please Note: Genoa are set to host Palermo on Monday Night.

Milan Derby split: It was a hotly contested derby right from the first minute and despite the two sides lacking real quality, the Milan derby arguably remains the best show in Italy. Milan took the lead thanks to Jeremy Menez’s sumptuous finish in the first half but Joel Obi restored parity with a low drive just near the hour mark.

Inter however would rue Mauro Icardi’s golden opportunity when he was face one on one early on in the match but Stephan El Shaarawy should have won it for Milan in the 75th minute. In the end though, both sides would be neither too happy or sad with a point.

Juventus cruise past Lazio: The question is who will stop the Bianconeri and not that they will require a stopping. Juventus were at their very best as they beat Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico and its easy to easy why they are course for their fourth successive Scudetto. Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez were a class apart as the Old Lady dispatched the capital club with effortless ease and outrageous panache. Juventus have 31 points from 12 games.

Roma earn hard fought win:  It was going to be always a tough match at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia for the Giallorossi. Atalanta took the lead thanks to Maxi Moralez’s close range finish but Roma fought back with goals from Adem Ljajic and Radja Nainggolan which secured victory. Rudi Garcia’s side have maintained they can win the title this season and its their ability to grind out victories like these that will be decisive.

Rafa Benitez and Napoli would be kicking themselves: Napoli would be ruing the missed opportunities and should have put the game to bed after leading 2-0 inside 30 minutes. Gonzaolo Higuain and Gokhan Inler scored the goals but an injury hit Cagliari struck back. The away side scored a couple of goals in a 10-minute span before Jonathan De Guzman gave Napoli the lead. Astonishingly, Diego Farias netted his second of the game just five minutes later in what a crazy encounter as the scoreline showed 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes.

Other results:  Sampdoria remained fourth with a 1-1 draw against Cesena while Fiorentina beat Hallas Verona by 2-1 away from home. Elsehwere, Antonio Di Natale scored his 200th Serie A goal but Udinese could only manage a 1-1 draw at home against Chievo. Sassuolo however won by a 1-0 score at Torino.
