Mido flogged for 6m, Spurs aren’t the only ones laughing

I promised myself that I wouldn’t touch footy news today but this one is just too much.
The thought that Tottenham had found a club willing to take Mido on loan was hilarious enough, but now, news that Tottenham have a 6m deal in place to sell Mido is just too much to ignore.
Ok, ok, so maybe Mido is not as bad as he has shown so far. Maybe he just hasn’t settled in properly in England.
But the transfer fee, and the logic of buying Mido for a newly promoted club like Birmingham is beyond me.
It’s a risk - and the fact that Birmingham are newly promoted makes it even riskier - why splash 6m on a striker who has flopped in the Premiership?
At this point, the 5.5m purchase of Richardson and 5m buy of Chopra by Sunderland comes to mind. There is one difference though: Chopra has scored goals in England (albeit in the Championship) while Richardson, when he’s played regularly, has shown ’some’ signs of being a half-decent player (and the fact that his manager has trained with him previously explains the price, a bit).
But Mido? 6m?
Tottenham fans must be pissing themselves.
Sorry if this offends you, but there’s really no other way to take this one.

Pissing Ourselves is spot-on.
You seem to forget that this guy, when he was playing regularly a couple of seasons ago, was scoring often in the premiership. It was only the arrival of Berbatov that curtailed his chances. So I’m afraid that your article is just rubbish and you really should become a muck-spreader on a farm because that’s all you seem to be good at.
Bit harsh. Given a good run of games, he can be a pretty solid player. However, at Spurs, Berbatov’s awesomness and Keano’s unreplacability deprived him of this. Good luck to him.
Spurs Fan
Price is steep but I have a feeling he has something to prove which he sort of did in his first eighteen months.
Before Spurs bought him full time the fans were telling Jol on all these sites to buy him no matter what the cost. Now after having the benefit of Berbatov and with his injury ridden season they’ve changed their tune.
And they say fans are fickle….
Fair comment. As a THFC season ticket holder one does have a grin tonight. Anybody else fancy Ghaly or Gardner. Got to be 5 million ???
Yep..you said it.I thought Bent for £16m was ridiculous, but at least he has been the top scoring english player in the prem in last 2 seasons.Mido played well for us first season, and £4.5m he cost us seemed like a good buy.But after his non performances last season,I didn’t think anyone would take him. When Brum loan deal with £5m buy out was banded around yesterday most spurs fans were dumbstruck by 2 things.Firstly that any prem club wanted him and 2nd that if Brum went down,he would be back at Spurs. Now he is going for £6m.Wonder how much they will pay for Ghaly???Well done Levy,Jol and Comoli, someone somewhere is laughing and we know who it is.Now we need to put that money towards Sneijder.A £15m bid should do it.Swap Chimbo with SWP and Glen Johnson, get in Boateng,Petrov for £7m,and while we splashing the cash would love to see a £7m bid for Heinze. He would add steel and experience to the back 4 and can play LB or CB,taking pressure off Bale.Top 4 here we come.
He was a good player for us, but ever since he had that ‘incident’ at the african cup of nations he wasn’t the same. I think he will improve given a full season, I certainly see him as a striker that can score maybe 15 goals a season? (Which is more Chopra could score in the premiership in his life time)
Sorry, but you’re a bit wide of the mark, as any Spurs’ fan will tell you.
I’m delighted we got so much, but Brum aren’t being mugged or getting a flop. He’s a highly skilled player who I believe has goals in him. Good at holding play and solid in the air. There are issues over his fitness levels, however.
The problem was his attitude and the fact that he was fourth choice at Spurs due to our exceptional strike force. Objectively, Berbatov is the best all round striker in the Premiership and Jol likes a little ‘n’ large combo, so Mido was never going to get a regular run.
He was priced at £5 million, which is about right. They paid &6 million but I’m sure it’s conditional. We win. They win. Until they go down.
to be fair, mido had a pretty good first season at spurs when we had him on loan. The biggest challenge for steve bruce is to keep him motivated and fit, the lad can bang them in for fun from both feet and his head when he is playing at his peak.
agree with others .watched him when he was 17 or 18 at ajax .was wippet quick with good feet and was great in the air.has loads of ability and with a manager who is prepared to manipulate and massage that ego and put some hunger into him he could realise an enormous potential
Flop??
This is the same player who almost fired us to the Champions League 2 seasons ago.. Maybe if he didnt go away to the African Nations that season, we would have got 4th.
Good luck to Bruce in getting him to knuckle down & work hard.
He can be a premiership success if so.
Thats bollocks to be honest, Mido was very good in his first season and well respected by Spurs fans, it was just unfortunate for him that we ended up buying one of the best strikers on the planet. Give him a starting place every week and he’ll easily prove his 6m price tag
When you consider the signing of Bent was 16.5 million, is Mido’s price not just about right? He has proved himself at this level.
Ahmed you are being too harsh. Mido has actually scored some goals in the EPL. While Chopra hasn’t. So your Chopra praise is ironic…
Not a fan of Mido but your comment of ‘There is one difference though: Chopra has scored goals in England’ is wrong as Mido has scored plenty in England. He got 11 premiership goals in his first full season (well 2 thirds of a season) with spurs and has scored 19 in the equivalent of a around a season and a bit’s worth of games so he’s not as bad as you’re making out.
Mido scored quite a few in his time in the PL and bags more than Chopra and Richardson so your “report” is wrong and cheap…
yeah, it is pretty silly to say chopra has scored goals in england, Mido scored over 10 goals in his first season, in the premiership alone!
Being a season ticket holder at Spurs the year before last, I saw Mido play a lot of football and I have to say that year he was easily one of the best target men strikers in the premiership. Obviously you dont really know what you are talking about, Mido is easily worth the money and I dont doubt he will contribute massively to Brums first season back in the premiership, as he contributed to us the first 2 seasons he was there. You cant blame Mido if hes playing in the same team as Berbatov.
no sorry the author is spot on, a ridiculous signing which as a spurs fan has me rolling around laughing. Didn’t he nearly sign for city for 4 million mid season? why have birmingham paid more? surely we would have accepted anything around 3 million. Oh well lolololol
im a spurs fan and although i wont be too sorry to mido go especially for that fee your article is inaccurate, he scored plenty of goals in his first season and given a run of games will do the same. How can you compare Chopra who as far as im aware didnt score a premiership goal?
Lazy piece
He’s a quality player but needs a good run of games to get fit. If he avoids injury and has a full pre-season I reckon he’ll work out. Fair price for someone young enough to have decent sell on value. Expect to see a lot of route 1 to him at Brum - similar to how he was used at Spurs. They need to have another quality striker to pick up on his flicks.
Very harsh,
Just didnt go for him last season, plus the fact he couldnt stop eating towards the end but gave us a good first season and most of us were hoping he’d stay.
Being the main man at City, think he will do allright, Good luck to him! COYS!!!!
It was too bad that Mido had his ups and downs at WHL, whatever the cause, it’s over. He has talent, that’s for sure, and 6 million may not be an extravagant price for a player who can score goals and work hard to please his manager.
Mido is better than Chopra
Yep 6 million…. emm al my christmases have come at once. It started off good enough by 1 season loan, but to come home and read the price tag I think Brum have been mugged. Overweight and bad attitude and quite frankly good bloody job he has gone.
Just a few more to exit, shame its not buy 1 get one free on the egyptian front, after Ghalys dismal display throwing his shirt down, pack your bags son.
Anyhow well done Spurs for making a profit on this one. Looking forward to another season
Regards
Daz
I think that the main problem with Mido is, and always has been, his attitude. For which reason he has moved around so much in his career, when he is still only 24!! And it is precisely for this reason that Chopra is a better purchase in my eyes - a less talented player, no doubt, but a team player and with bags full of enthusiasm. Which would you rather have in April during a relegation scrap?
Fair point about the goals scored early on, but the original argument still stands - would you buy a player who has come fresh from scoring a hatful of goals or a player whose confidence has been shot in the last season?
Don’t be too hasty, fellow Spurs fans. Mido was pretty good in his first season with us, and given regular first team fottball he will do okay at Brum.
Mido is hugely talented, he’s also got weight / injury problems and has a bit of an attitude. He needs to feel important, not like he is Berbatov’s understudy.
If he’s serious about the job in at Brum, settles in and remains fit for 75% of the season then they will be halfway towards safety.
6 million is a good result for Spurs and while it was too much to pay, you could say that about most of this Summer’s business. A fit and happy Mido is worth a lot more than 6 million, but only time will tell if that’s what Birmingham have gotten.
Let’s just hope that Mido doesn’t come out with a statement saying that he’s “Hungrier than ever” [to get back into football]. It’ll be sufficient to strike fear into Brum fans.
OMG 6M 4 MIDO A EX-SPUD U GOTTA B KIDIN ME HAHAHA LOL BIRMINGHAM R A GD CLUB I WANT DEM 2 STAY UP BUT 6M 4 HIM THEY WERE BETTER OFF TAKIN BENDTNER OFF US ON LOAN 4 1 MORE SEASON
Ahmed,
Some of us remember the positive contributions he made and are prepared to give credit where credit’s due. It’s good to see so many non-fickle spurs fan outnumbering the usual sun-reading idiot brigade.
First six months at spurs mido was fat… he worked hard over the summer and the following season he’d toned up and was one of our best players… to me six million seems a lot, but then when you compare it to 16.5 million for bent he’s probably going to turn out to be the bargain buy of the season. He WILL bang in goals! If Brucie can get him properly fit and motivated he will become a legend at Birmingham… Rubbish article, however pleased we’re not giving him away for nothing COYS!!!
Mate….you might be laughing the other side of your face soon….you obviously have made up your mind and have not watched him play….he will be the best striker you have had for yonks!!!!. He never really got a go at Spurs…wish he had worked out!
Don’t make comment on things you dont know about might help your credability!!!!
COYS
You may wanna rerwrite your article my old son, Mido may very well be the bargain buy of the summer, the guy has skill in bucketloads, his problem is his weight, and his big fish attitude. The write manager could have a real player on his hands with Mido, and I for one wish him all the best, he is and always will be class.
Mido is a confidence player. Two seasons ago he was our #1 striker with keane and defoe battling for #2. He will go to Birmingham as #1 and will play accordingly.
what i think is funny is that spurs have probably lost money over this deal, sure you may have gained money back for the transfer, but Mido’s salary over his 2.5 years in england probably take your losses above 6 million
that is assuming you paid his wages, which is highly likely, as his relations with roma were hardly rosy then
Ahmed…
Mido wears his heart on his slieve and gave alot for Tottenham. Fans like and remember him for this. He’s also damn good in the air and score from the floor too. Because of injury, lack of fitness and four of the best strikers in the prem sharing the dressingroom, he has to move on. 6 Million good value for BOTH sides.
Ahmed, you usually write solid articles but this one doesnt show any respect for the facts.
Good luck to Mido. COYS.
PS. arent the gooner comments rediculous! Arsenal fans suck.
Your article is spot on. Those who say that because Berbatov is here he has struggled are talking nonsense. Mido’s form has been poor long before Berbatov arrived at Spurs. What we saw from him during the ACN and since is an accurate indicator of his inadequacies. So is it any surprise that he has been dropped from the Egyptian squad? No it is not. When I heard that B’ham are willing to pay £6m for him I was creasing myself laughing. Well done to the borad for making this deal.
When bought in on loan from Roma in 2005 Mido was an instant hero at the lane, his permenant move and the arrival of Berbatov put him down the pecking order and he just didnt get the run of games to build on and score goals. Obviously now he is surplus to requirements with the arrival of Bent and Defoe claiming he is going to stay and fight for his place at Spurs so Mido knows its time to go.
I think he will do well for Birmingham and score plenty of goals if he stays injury free.
6 Million is about right if he does well.
Good luck Mido, COME ON YOU SPURS!!!!
jab6sux - if we are talking about losing money on player, id like to bring up Reyes………lol
you paid £18mil for him and now will be lucky to sell him for half of that
and anyway, back to Mido…
I think he was a decent player for us. However, he had a bad attitude last season and got fat again. if brum keep him happy they will have done some good business.
all in all i reckon the price is probably a little too high, but it is a good deal for both teams.
im just hoping that they take ghaly as well
Mido was class for us in 05/06, passionate, good in the air and a real danger. £6 million is a gamble but one that could really work out. With our four world class strikers Mido wasnt going to get a look in so I for one would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him good luck…
what a loads of bollox, mido is proven in the prem, 2005-2006 season he was quality. last season his form suffered mainly to do with his fitness and not getting a decent runs of games. i think he will do very well a city. I wish him well and thank him for his service in a spurs shirt. ghaly on the other hand can f*ck off !!
Your article is crap! Mido is a good player…
Mido was great for us in his first season and i think Jol should have played him and Berbatov upfront together with Robbie Keane playing just behind them… that would have been the winning formula!! In our league you need a powerful presence on the pitch and i think thats what we lacked last season because Mido hardly played. I think Jol tactically is not that great and i think hes got it wrong with “little and large” idea… so is Bent a £16m bench warmer?? Cos Berbatov is def first on team sheet every time!
Us Spurs fans shouldn’t be laughing too loud just yet.
He still has to pass a medical…..
I don’t know how some of the comments on here came from SPURS fans - r u forgeting how Mido played when he was on loan to us - banging in goals for fun!!
The arrival of Berbatov has made Mido’s games few and far between BUT he still managed to score when needed E.G against SCUM - taking us to extra time in the semi-final of the league cup AND the only goal of the game against WEST HAM!!
Good Luck Mido!!
Yid Army
“Didn’t expect Spurs fans to defend Mido, but oh well”
If we’re fans of Spurs, then we were bound to be fans of Mido too. He did play, and play well for the club you know. He set up quite a lot of goals and loved playing for Spurs, but the way things turned out meant more often than not he wasn’t able to feature in many of our games. With Bent here, he was now our 5th striker and I can understand why he’s leaving and for 6 million. It just shows the quality we have in our strikers.
Also, this article is a load of rubbish. Mido will do well at Birmingham, and I hope he gets a good welcome back to the lane when he plays us, before we stuff them of course!
well it is a lot of cash for a bench warmer , but in my opinion i think he will do well for the brum , i think this cos when hes playin reguarley hes a good player to link up with , just like we saw when him and keane and defoe nearley fired us into the champions league. !!!!!!!
Send ghaly packing the prick!!
The 6 mil tag reflects the hike in prices seen since the new tv deal for the premiership was announced. He’s still only 24 years old and birmingham being his 8th club in total shows that he struggles to settle but also that quite a few managers have rated him. Keane was in a similar situation before settling at Spurs. Maybe the blues is mido’s kind of club and he’ll start performing at his best, which I can tell you is easily 6 mil worth. It’s really about how well bruce does with him. Good luck and check his first few goals last season if they’re on youtube to see how good he can be.
I don’t agree with your comments, me old chum, Mido was excellent in his first season and if it wasn’t for the african cup, injury and Berbatov he would have been a regular. If Bruce can keep him motivated and fit and play him regularly, he will come up with the goods. How on earth you can compare him with Chopra who may have had a good championship season but is unproven at premiership level is beyond me.
Good luck Mido, show them what you can do! (not against us though please!)
As a Birmingham fan living in exile in Mexico, I have only seen Mido on tv. Each time i have been impressed by his urgency to score. I rated him highly but can understand why he has become surplus in a Spurs team bent on becoming champions league quality and looking the part with the best centre forward in the league in the team in Berbatov.
6 million is a lot of money, but in today’s market it seems a fair price.a proven goalscorer (10 plus) in the premiership has to be worth 12 million plus nowadays.
If Forsell stays at Blues, i can see him playing off Mido’s touches very nicely. 10 goals for Blues would break our Premiership record!
Are you kidding me …. Mido almost propelled Spurs into the top 4 in 05/06. Why is he being daemonized? He never had a regular starting chance in a lineup with Berbs, Keano, and Defoe. Especially after Berbs showed he’s got to be the most valuable striker in the permiership. Mido is a confidence player, he needs to be in the starting line if you want results out of him.
This article is rubbish, watch him bag 10 for the blues and propel them into top/mod table, then you’ll be laughing you ONLY had to pay 6 to get that kind of quality.
who says im an arsenal fan???
when did i ever say i was an arsenal fan
just because i criticise the action over Mido, i must be an arsenal supporter? it shows that spurs fans can’t take criticism, and just assume it comes from the red half of north london, tsk tsk
Spurs are laughing all the way to the bank.A crappy player sold at 6m,kinda lessens the pain of paying 16m for bent
Totenham without Mido and with far more expensive players lost miserably their first two encounters. I bit had Mido played he would have had the motivation to outperform himself and Totenham would have done better.
Judging from results so far the author is off track by a large margin
