Good tips on topic.Lifelong MUFC fan here. I actually wasn’t surprised at all when I heard the news. For both MU and Owen this is a great deal. Owen is a player who, let’s face it, was far too good to go to Newcastle and has received little to no service there. In the 08-09 season particularly, Newcastle were routinely dreadful and to score 10 goals with that kind of support isn’t bad.

I really can't get my head around this one and never will. Regardless of how good Owen is supposed to be why has no-one commented on the way his talents complement the current Man united set up. Everyone who watches Man U should know that their style of football is driven by their front players, they are the engine of the team. The system has been completely dependent on the hard work, pace, teamwork and technique of their forwards, who have been required to come deep, link play, pull defenders apart and drive forward. As Owen has pretty much none of the attributes necessary to do this kind of job why is there such a rejoicing over his signature?

Gd article. Too many fans these days seem to live in a fantasy world or prolly play too much football manager and think fergie shld go for every player in the world, but fergie will only sign players that he thinks will improve the squad.

Sure, Owen is well past his best, but for £0 transfer fee and on a very 'basic' salary, there's nothing to lose for United. A good result all round for United and Owen is for Owen to make 25 - 30 appearances next season and bag 10 - 15 goals. This is not unrealistic *IF* Owen can stay fit and, if this is happens, he could be in contention for a place in Capello's WC squad.

The good thing is that Owen won't whine if he doesn't play.

I think it's an excellent signing by Ferguson. But personally i think SAF should put Owen and Rooney together, and keep Berbatov as a spare.
