Watch USA v Mexico live online here.
The United States and Mexico renew their heated rivalry on Wednesday August 12th in CONCACAF 2010 World Cup Qualifying at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Live coverage of the match will begin at 2:30 PM local time (8:30 PM GMT).
Match Preview
The two teams played last month in the final of the Gold Cup but the match will be under very different circumstances. The US has a new roster with many experienced players and only a few who played in the Gold Cup. Headlining the USA is Landon Donovan who’s been in great form this season for club and country. The back four is centered by two experienced and reliable players, Oguchi Onyewu and Carlos Bocanegra while the midfield is full of players in the top European leagues.
Mexico on the other hand has a combination of players from the Primera Division and overseas. Giovani Dos Santos and Carlos Vela ran circles against the USA defense in the Gold Cup Final and are rising stars for that National Team. Veteran Cuauhtemoc Blanco is a skilled playmaker who could provide a spark as a second half substitute. Overall both teams have experienced and solid rosters that should make for an entertaining match.
The Americans have never won at the Azteca and have only managed one draw. The heat, altitude, and massive home crowds (over 100,000) make it a huge home field advantage for Mexico who are looking to move up in the World Cup standings. Can the Americans finally pull off a victory in Mexico? Will the embarassment of the 5-0 loss in the Gold Cup be motivation to pull off their first win at the Azteca? It’s going to be difficult for the USA to win but this team showed in the Confederations Cup they have experience and the talent to compete with the top nations. Mexico will be up for the match and it should be a close one that ultimately ends in a draw.
Prediction – Draw 1-1
Mexico v United States – Live

We Mexicans are also Americans, because we live in the same continent called America. Also when you mention mexican players from overseas you should say the same, that mexicans come from the top European leagues. For example Giovanni and Rafa Marquez has been playing for Barcelona (1st team in Europe).
Rafael Marquez-Barcelona…Giovani Dos Santos-Tottenham…Carlos Vela-Arsenal…Andres Guardado-Deportivo La Coruña…Guillermo Franco-Villareal…Carlos Salcido-PSV Eindhoven…Ricardo Osorio-Vfb Stuttgart…Hector Moreno-AZ Alkmaar…Francisco Rodriguez-PSV Eindhoven…Miguel Layun-Atalanta…Nery Castillo-Dnipro……..Top European Leagues!!!…..and they are acctually in FIRST DIVISION!!!….
I lived many years in Mexico, so I have heard the argument about who has the right to use “America” many times. This attitute reflects either a lack of knowledge about the rest of the world or a lack of respect for the freedom of other countries to call themselves how they deem fit. In the U.S. (and almost all countries outside of Latin America) America is not a continent, but rather a country (the U.S.) We use the term The Americas (plural) to refer to the continent (or continents, depending on criteria of what a continent is). Just because Mexicans and other Latinamericanos use the term “América” to refer to the continent, doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to. So please stop scolding people for calling themselves how they please. Can you imagine scolding people from Greenland for calling themselves Greenlanders when the country is almost entirely white (well, before global warming at least). How would you like it if someone told you that you have no right to call yourselves Mexicans, because this word refers to the Mexicas, the historical indigenous group related to the descendent Nahua ethnic group that has ironically suffered greatly at the hands of “Mexicans”? Please don’t feel bad, I know this lack of knowldege and/or empathy towards other isn’t intentional. Just inform yourself.
I’m looking for a repeat of United States 2-0 Mexico (2002 FIFA World Cup Second Round). The Mexicans’ temper and lack of discipline should provide for a host of yellow cards/fouls, and I’m going to guess ONE red card for Mexico. dirty players, they have one of the highest fouls per game stats of ANY TEAM in world cup qualifying, and it goes up 47% when they play against the USA. stats don’t lie.
Putamadrew
i guess stats dont lie.. seeing as how USA got more yellow cards this game than Mexico, and here is another useful fact…. USA HAS NEVER BEATEN MEXICO AT HOME….. Lets face the only reason that Mexico has gotten off to a bad start is because of the inconsistency of the Managers…
USA NEVER TO BEAT MEXICO…. Well atleast at home… it took us 10 years to beat you in USA… but atleast we did…
I’m embarrassed to be an American today. We have the players to do it, but we’ve clearly regressed since Bob took over. Heads need to roll.
