Manchester United are thought to be one of the many interested clubs looking to sign Dutch international Memphis Depay in the summer, but according to reports, the youngster is keen to join Liverpool instead.

The Mirror reports that despite Manchester United’s strong interest in the player (obvious Dutch connection), Liverpool are emerging in pole position to secure the deal.

Liverpool scouts have been keeping a close eye on him, and hold a good relationship with the player and his agent, Alex Kroes.

The report adds that a delegation from Liverpool has visited PSV every month this season and spent a lot of time this week with Kroes.

Depay is rated £20m and is described by Southampton’s Dutch boss Ronald Koeman as “the biggest talent in the Netherlands”.

Premier League outfit Tottenham are also thought to be interested in him, but a source close the player has said Depay wants to join Liverpool instead.

Judging by the report, not the club but the player is showing equal interest here, which in theory should make the task easier to secure the deal.

Can Liverpool act quickly in summer and sign him up before Manchester United? Do you think he would be a good signing for the Reds?
