How to write match reports:
Write a unique article for each match report. Don’t combine two match reports into one.
If you want to do team ratings, best to do this as a separate post. Similarly, if your match report is going to be extensive (800 words plus) and cover a lot of topics, then put the goals / videos in a separate post with a condensed match report.
No section titles for the first section, for the rest, see their descriptions.
For a Match Report: Review the game. Explain what was at stake, describe the major incidents, get across the big story leading up to and after the game. Link to the match preview post if possible and, where relevant, the competition league table page (which you’ll find here).
For a Match Video: Embed goal videos (which you can find via the sources listed above) and set them up like this:
Title: Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United : Goal Videos
and then for each goal:
Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United (Nani) – 19′
Goal description in 1-2 lines
Embed goal video
Do the same for major incidents and highlights.
Article Title: Home Team X-X Away Team – Report Title. Example: “Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United – dumped out of the title race”. Idea is to create the title to attract visitors from news syndication sites and to attract regular Soccerlens readers.
All in One SEO Pack Title: ‘Home Team X-X Away Team – Match Report and Goal Videos’. Example: “Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United – Match Report and Goals”.
