Back in November, The Times had reported that Manchester United were weighing up an ambitious move for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, with Shinji Kagawa could be used in a part exchange deal. We reported back then:

The German star has three-and-a-half-year remaining on his contract and has a release clause of €35m/£29m. However, his release clause is only active after 2015 and as per reports from German newspaper Bild, Dortmund are willing to improve his salary from €4.5m/year to €6m/year to fend off interests from other clubs.

However, according to Bild, Reus, who has a contract till 2017, has rejected a new extension offer at the club.

Klopp recently insisted that Dortmund would resist all temptation to sell star players like Hummels and Reus but they might be forced to change their stance now. Selling Reus will be the best option for Dortmund (in terms of making profit out of the deal) should the German refuse to commit his future at the club.

Bayern Munich, who have already signed Robert Lewandowski from Dortmund on a free transfer, are also seemingly interested in signing Reus.
