Mansfield Town Close in on New Manager, While Heavy Weather Threatens the Conference’s Weekend Fixtures

Stags chairman John Radford has announced his four-man shortlist for the vacant managerial role at Mansfield Town, as the ground staff at Field Mill battle to be ready for the weekend game with Barrow.

Current caretaker manager Duncan Russell is among the final four but Radford has been playing his cards close to his chest regarding the other three candidates.

“I will not be appointing a manager who will try and use this club as a stepping stone”, he said “I am down to the final four now and will be looking to bring in someone who has a proven track record and a high win ratio.”

Caretaker manager, Duncan Russell, and his assistant, Paul Hall, had previously voiced their desires to take up their roles on a permanent basis, and Russell has impressed the chairman during his two games in charge.

“Russ’ has done well in his temporary spell as manager, gaining four points from a possible six and the players have taken to him well”Radford continued.

A spokesman from the club revealed that an appointment would be made very soon, but remained guarded about the exact date.

Meanwhile, staff at the club’s Field Mill home have been given till 10am on Friday to have the pitch ready for Saturday’s clash with Barrow. The deadline for the decision has been intentionally delayed by the Football Conference to allow for the exceptional weather conditions.

“It isn’t worthwhile for us to attempt to clear the pitch, and even if we did it is highly likely it would still be frozen.” Said Michael Merriman, head groundsman at the club.

Mansfield is braced for more snow and temperatures are set to plummet further over the next few days.
