Manchester United’s Champions League play-offs opponent confirmed

Manchester United will take on Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs later scheduled later this month.

The draw for play-offs will be held at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday morning.

Louis van Gaal and his men need to get the best out of the two-legged tie if they hope to have any chance of making it to the group stages of the 2015-16 Champions League. A failure to progress will see them miss out on the Europe’s elite club competition for a second seasons in a row.

Last term, they were not in the Champions League after a dismal season under David Moyes’ guidance a year before. Despite the Red Devils failed to finish in top three, they have United have kept their hope alive of sealing a berth in the group stages as they were fourth behind Arsenal, which forced them to play in the play-offs this campaign.

United, along with Bayer Leverkusen Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting Lisbon and Valencia were in the seeded pot. Meanwhile, the unseeded pot had Club Brugge, CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Monaco, Rapid Vienna.

The Premier League giants will play the first leg at Old Trafford, while they make a trip to Belgium for the return leg will be held at Jan Breydel Stadium. The other teams who have made it to the group stages of the Champions League from England are Premier League winners Chelsea, runners-up Manchester City and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the other confirmed fixtures are La Liga outfit Valencia will take on AS Monaco, while Rapid Vienna face Shakhtar Donetsk.
