Manchester United Want Torres, But Not Now

Remember Rooney in 2004? Manchester United had been keeping tabs on Rooney after Euro 2004, but had no plans of moving for him that year.

Newcastle changed that with a ridiculous bid that forced United to move for boy wonder an year earlier. Manchester United’s best signing of the decade, and with the right support he is now poised to be the world’s best striker.

And now there is every indication that United are doing the same with Torres. We want the player, but because he’s not proven and would be a gamble at the asking price of 27 mil, We also want him to take another year and mature (so we get our hands on a finished product).

The Footie (I think) made a crack about when Newcastle would bid for Torres, but the danger is very real. Right now, Chelsea have their eyes set on Tevez, the Italians don’t have any hope, Barca have Messi and Torres has himself said that he won’t play for Real Madrid.

That leaves Manchester United as the only realistic option – the only club that has the respect and the money to land Torres.

Ok, scratch that – we don’t have the money. So if we were ‘forced’ to move for the player, we wouldn’t be able to pay the transfer fee.

Luckily, Newcastle won’t be considered ‘good enough’ by Torres, while Liverpool don’t have that kind of money.

Manchester United can afford to wait, and maybe buy a cheaper striker (or stick with Rossi and Solskjaer as backups for Rooney and Saha).

Maybe next year. Maybe. Question is – where will we get the money from?

I wouldn’t worry about Newcastle, Liverpool or Arsenal but…

Just be aware that (I think) next year is election year at Barcelona… I wouldn’t be surprised to see Torres’ name attached to one of the candidates’ campaigns. Better to snap him up now before things get silly there… before Real decide that Ruud or Ronaldo are past their best… before Roman Abramovich starts stamping his feet and holding his breath until someone buys him that Torres bloke… before Berlusconi tries to buy back the Scudetto. Torres (according to Guillem Balague) has even told friends he he wants to come to Old Trafford!!!!

Now is our best chance to sign one of the best young strikers in Europe. Next year will be too late!

Good point. Torres has already said that he would play for Barca if he got the chance. Trouble is, with Messi, Ronaldinho, Eto and Gudjohnsen in the team, where would Torres fit? He is better than G, but that’s it.

Unless Ronny or Eto were sold, Torres wouldn’t be good enough for Barca. Look at Saviola? poor chap cant find a club, even Arsenal won’t buy him now.

For the moment, Italians hav no chance, right; Chelski, Arsenal and Barca hav enough forwards, right. But one year later, who know?

If we really want to get that Torres guy, now is the best time to take action.

Chelsea paid 16 mil for Mikel.. At least half that went to Man U.. 12 mil for Van the man and a supposed 30 mil budget anyway.. Man Utd are the richest club in the world.. It shouldnt be who can they buy but who cant they buy.. Unless there are at least 2 ‘good’ signings they aint getting near Chelsea or Liverpool for that matter…

I think with Van Nistelrooy moving on, i think it would be foolish to approach the coming season with only Rooney, Saha and Solskjaer as our experienced and recognised forwards. The reason i leave out Rossi is because i dont think he has matured to the level yet required but with time im sure he’ll become a very good player. Therefore, i urge Fergie to get his chequebook out for Torres. Watching him in the World Cup has shown he has the qualities or at least the potential to succeed at the highest level. On the other hand, i ask why on earth Man Utd havent got in contact with Damien Duff, for years we tried to get him but now i see an annoying pattern with players whom we wanted to get at astronomical prices but were rejected but are now available at knockdown bargains e.g. Campbell, Thuram, Vieira. We have no recognised left winger and for Duff at 11m thats a bargain! I think he would def choose us over Tottenham anyday.

    I agree Jason.

He was a ManU fan as a youngster too.

Duff is so dirty. He kicked C.Ronaldo deliberately and uglily in an international match. I started hating him much since then.

Duff is not a dirty player. And you would kick Ronaldo if you were playing against him with all the diving he does. I certainly would!

Yeah, that Cristiano guy pissed me off big time!

torres is wasting his time at liverpool. if he would get good playes along side him then he would be better than messi, ronaldo, kaka, rooney every one. messi is the best player because he plays good and has good players along side him. torres should go to barca ,realmadrid , manu, chealsea but in think he should go to real madrid or barca
