Speculation concerning Manchester United’s search for a new central defensive pairing is beginning to grow, with the latest reports claiming that Feyenoord’s Bruno Martins Indi could well be brought in to potentially partner German rock Mats Hummels at Old Trafford next season.

The Daily Mirror claim that Martins Indi, 22, could well be drafted in at the back at United, with the Red Devils bidding farewell to both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer.

What gives this rumour a little more credence is the fact that Martins Indi is rated very highly by Louis van Gaal in the Dutch national side, and considering the 62-year-old is primed to be named Manchester United manager in the coming days, Martins Indi’s decent professional relationship with the former Bayern Munich boss could pave the way for a summer transfer to the Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund’s Hummels is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world at present, and will surely show his exceptional talent at the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

The capture of the 25-year-old would be a remarkable achievement for United considering they will not be participating in European competition next season, but then again, there are few bigger clubs in the world than the Red Devils.

What do you think? Would this be a decent centre-back pairing for the future at United? Should Phil Jones or Chris Smalling be given the chance? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below…
