Old Trafford – Manchester, England
21 March 2010 – 13:30 GMT

The two most successful clubs in England meet in a match that will have a major impact on the title race and the race for the last Champions League spot.

Manchester United v Liverpool Preview

It’s a crucial match for both sides who have different goals for the remainder of the EPL season. Liverpool is out of the title race and looking for a 4th place finish to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Manchester United is top of the table before this weekend’s matches and looking for their 4th consecutive title.

Liverpool comes into the match with two straight wins including a win the Europa League and an EPL win against Portsmouth. Manchester United heads into the match fresh off a 3-0 win over Fulham last Sunday. The two clubs are the most successful in England, each having 18 domestic titles in the top flight (Premier League and First Division). While Liverpool were the dominant team a few decades ago, it’s largely been Manchester United in the 90’s and 2000’s.

Injuries for Liverpool include Aurelio, Riera, and Skrtel while Manchester United will be without Anderson, Brown, De Laet, Hargreaves, O’Shea, and Owen.

A win for Liverpool would put keep them in position for that top four finish. They come into the match underdogs and their inability to score many goals on the road as been one of their weaknesses this season. Fernando Torres will need to convert chances as the Manchester United defense will be much stronger than Lille or Portsmouth (the last two teams Liverpool faced).

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is on an absolute tear and will be the player the Liverpool defense needs to stop. His knack for scoring goals is rivaling Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He currently has 32 goals in 36 goals and has seven in his last four matches.
