Manchester United v Liverpool – Penalties and Red Cards

The following is an analysis of all premiership premiership and champions league champions league games played by Manchester United and Liverpool this season. Liverpool are sure that United are top the table by manipulating the referees. Lets see if the facts support those accusations:

Number of Penalties given to United* : 4 League / 0 Champions League

1. Ronaldo (pen) 57 – Man Utd 5-2 Tottenham
2. Ronaldo (pen) 23 – Man Utd 1-4 Liverpool
3. Ronaldo (pen) 44 – Man Utd 1-0 Everton
4. Ronaldo (pen) 60 – Man Utd 2-0 Bolton
With the exception of Everton, United won every game they were awarded a penalty against by at least 1 additional goal.
Number of Penalties given against against United*: 3 League / 0 Champions League
—— Premier League ————-
1. Murphy (pen) 18 – Fulham 2-0 United
2. Gerrard (pen) 44 – Man Utd 1-4 Liverpool
3. Geovanni (pen) 82 – Man Utd 4-3 Hull
With the exception of Hull which united won by 1 goal, every penalty given against United resulted in the team losing the match.
No Penalties awarded against against United in the Champions League.

While not so significant in the league, penalties awarded to liverpool came in very handy in tight games against Marseille and Atletico Madrid. It almost gave them the edge over Chelsea as well.

That’s right. Zero! Only Lucas has been sent off this season for Liverpool, and that was against Everton in the FA cup. 0 players sent off in the league and the champions League. Now, lets see how many players have been sent off when playing against Liverpool.

I was wondering why these stats didnt include the 3 red cards for Christian Ronaldo against Tottenham, Stoke and Blackburn for violent conduct (kicking various players off the ball)…oh yeah the refs didnt send him off for some strange reason!!
This article is baseless. Man Utd won Penalties that should not have stood. Whereas liverpool won penalties with intent from opposing teams. And because of their intense game, opposing teams consistantly play rough against liverpool hence red cards. The real issue is that man utd are favoured by refs and geet a helping hand at unlocking other teams. Favoritism to united does not boil down only to penalties and red cards. man u get many favours such as opposing teams penalised with yellow cards when united playerrs throw themselves to the ground, goals get counted even if united players are offside etc. You should get facts right and go search well how many occasions united get favoured by ref. It is fact that united are going to lift the title so its no use arguing what should have been, but this does not masks the feeling that united were helped and are not the worthy champions, a bit like giggs winning PFA with only 12 league starts. Bravo.
Maybe for the same reason they didn’t send of palacios or king (wich are the only fouls that should’ve been red cards that I can remember right now), because the refs here are crap. No one’s talking about bias, it’s about correcting an incorrect but common view: that ManU is going to win the title because of the refs, and, as you can see, it’s bullshit. So don’t start looking for a fight, there’s nothing to fight about.

And yet, we win a game by three clear goals and completely outclass the opposition, but the penalty is what won us the game! You scousers and your double standards!
I love how according to you lot, all your pens are stone wall, 100% legit penalties and you get them because you spend a lot of time in the opponents penalty area, however every single penalty we are awarded is a wrong decision and no matter how much time we spend in the opposition box there is no way we ever deserve a penalty, and there is a deep conspiracy by the referees to help big bad Manchester United win the league when honourable Liverpool (with your perfect captain who has never dived or spent a night in a prison cell) are the ones who really deserve it.

I have been watching football for more years than I care to remember and have seen English referees consistently favouring United, just as they did yesterday in the Arsenal match. In a close league the favours they receive make all the difference. United didn’t have an English ref against Barcelona, though, and it showed. Boy were they outclassed.
No wonder United are loathed by all non-Man U fans throughout the country.The premier league is a joke – anyone with a single brain cell knows who’s going to win it. And it won’t be Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool.
To all those that say that the Referees favor Man U, you cant be that big of an Idiot dont you know that after every game there is a review of each match and decision a referee makes?
I believe that united play very well towards that end of the season and deserved to lift the cup…..
I dont see why Liverpool fans keep picking on United fans on matters that dont concern them, why don’t your’ll focus on Liverpool problems then United Strengths.
