1. Manchester United v Arsenal, FA Cup 2015

After defeating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates in the league, it was time that Louis van Gaal was facing for the first time at home in the sixth round FA Cup clash in March. An early defensive error from Antonio Valencia and Angel Di Maria saw Nacho Monreal score the first goal of the match.

United, however, equalised from a brilliant header from Wayne Rooney three minutes later, which came off Di Maria’s cross. The game turned to Arsenal’s favour when Valencia’s back pass to keeper David De Gea fell shot and former United striker Danny Welbeck put the ball into the net.

Things got worse for United as Di Maria was sent off for diving and then grabbing the referee in the second half.

2. Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal, 1998

United were nine points ahead of Arsenal and the Gunners had the chance to level the score, with three games in hand. It was Marc Overmass, who was the star player for the north London side as his second half strike, which went in between United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel’s legs helped Arsenal to seal a crucial victory. That season, they went on to win the title with two games to spare.

3. Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal, 2002

This fixture is something a United fan would want to forget, while Arsenal fans still chant about it even now. The penultimate game of the season and both clubs are fighting for the league title.

The absence of star striker Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, along with defender Tony Adams saw United pitched in as favourites to win the tie, given the home condition. However, things did not go in the Red Devils’ favour. Sylvain Wiltord scored the winner as Arsenal went on to win the league at Old Trafford.

4. Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal, 1990

Arsenal sealed a narrow victory over their fiercest league rivals, thanks to Anders Limpar’s first half goal, which was the difference between the two sides. Arsenal left-back Nigel Winterburn and United star Brian McClair had previous history of altercations.

The two were involved in an incident at Old Trafford and this time, 21 players on the pitch were involved in a brawl, which saw Arsenal dock two points, while United lost a point.
