According to Telegraph, Manchester United will now step in their efforts to sign a centre back and a striker after announcing the deals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Following the departures of Van Persie and Radamel Falcao, Van Gaal is keen to add a big name striker to his side and the Dutchman has identified Robert Lewandowski as the perfect candidate.

The former Dortmund man has been one of the best strikers in the world over the last 3 years and has had an impressive debut spell with the German champions.

United have been linked with several strikers including the likes of Lacazette, Benzema, Kane, Higuain etc. But according to Telegraph, Lewandowski is the top priority for Van Gaal.

PSG forward Edinson Cavani remains an alternative for the Old Trafford outfit but the Poland international is top of the list as the Reds look to make their mark in the league as well as the Champions League next season.

It is highly unlikely that Bayern will let go of Robert Lewandowski, especially with no suitable replacements available. But it is beyond doubt that Manchester United have the ambition ad resources needed to land the coveted striker should the opportunity present itself.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with Angel Di Maria earlier this summer and the possibility of a swap deal cannot be ruled out, especially now that United are willing to let go of the player, they forked out 60 million pounds for, last summer.

Whether a deal happens, remains to be seen. But it seems more and more likely that a big name striker could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer.
