Portuguese League clubs have been intensely scouting players from the Portuguese League in recent years. This summer, we saw Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo joining Manchester United, while Serbian winger Lazar Markovic has signed for Liverpool from Benfica. And if the reports are to be believed, Arsenal and Manchester United have been closely monitoring the situation of Sporting’s William Carvalho as well for the past one year.

Manchester United are also seemingly interested in Benfica’s Argentine forward Enzo Perez, who is also attracting interest from La Liga outfit Valencia. Perez was heavily linked with a move to United when David Moyes was in charge of the club, but somehow that interest had died down following the change of management.

However, it seems like United have rekindled their old interest again, with reports suggesting that United scouts were present at the Stadium of Light last Tuesday to watch Perez in action for Benfica against Monaco and that they were highly impressed with what they saw.

Louis van Gaal is keen to add him to his United squad in the January transfer window, but the Dutchman will need to pay the Argentine’s €30m release clause to get his signature on the dotted lines.
