Ferguson’s first choice to become next Manchester United boss?

Carlo Ancelotti Manchester United

The pressure is mounting on the shoulders of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal. However, irrespective of where United finish this season, it seems like his future is in no danger and that he will be given a transfer war-cheat next summer to sculpt the squad to his own taste.

However, Spanish press are speculating that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti could replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss next summer.

After a promising start this season, Real Madrid are stuttering a bit at the moment, and narrowly scraped through to the quarter-finals with fans showing anger during the club’s 4-3 defeat against Schalke recently.

Ancelotti who guided Madrid to the La Decima last season (won two Champions League in his career), has come under criticism but club president Florentino Perez said yesterday that the Italian will not be sacked this season.

On the other hand Van Gaal is currently in the middle of his first season at United and will finish the season empty handed after Uniter were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal.

The Dutchman faces a tough task to guide his team into top four this season, and Spanish newspaper Marca speculates that his job would be in danger should United fail to finish in top four.

So, what’s the natural conclusion? Ancelotti’s job in danger, Van Gaal’s job in danger, results in United could look for the Italian to replace the Dutchman.

The background behind such constructed speculation between United and Ancelotti dates back to the Sir Alex Ferguson era, when the Scot reportedly identified Ancelotti as his ideal successor before the season he retired as United boss.
