Premier League giants Manchester City are reportedly deep in negotiation with Palmeiras over the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus but faces a stiff competition from derby rivals Manchester United.

According to reports from GloboesporteManchester United are ready to make a €38m (£26.8m) bid for the 19-year-old forward. The Red Devils have told Palmeiras that they will make a formal offer on Wednesday.

Jesus apparently has a clause in his contract that allows him to join either of Manchester United / Real Madrid / Barcelona or Bayern Munich for €24m. However, with City offering over €30m, United probably have decided to match the bid with a better offer.

The Brazilian is a highly talented player who is often compared with his national team skipper, Neymar, because of a similar playing style. He is currently with the Brazil squad preparing for the Rio Olympics and it seems top clubs are keen to get the deal done before the start of the mega event, starting from next month.

Jesus probably will be sent on loan to Palmeiras to remain with the club till the end of the season. The Brazilian club are on course to winning the Brasileiro and the youngster is expected to play a key role for his club.

I find it really funny and absurd with the way the Gabriel Jesus transfer saga is developing at the moment. Only a couple of weeks ago, Jesus’s market price was around €20m-25m and now the price being quoted is around €34-38m. The interesting part is City may back off from the deal after learning United’s offer and the Red Devils may end up signing the player paying €14m from their initial offer.
