Manchester United to make desperate attempt for Tottenham’s Berbatov?
First it was Bolton’s Nicolas Anelka.
Then it was Newcastle United’s Obafemi Martins.
Now the Times (never ones to be left behind) are claiming that Manchester United are lining up a 20m pounds bid for Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov after reports that the striker was ‘unsettled’ by Martin Jol’s rotation policy.
What bullshit.
For starters, as I’ve discussed here, there’s no need to bring in a big-name, first-XI player to Manchester United at this point – within 2 weeks our other strikers will start coming back from their injuries and then you’ll have the new man fighting with Tevez, Rooney, Anderson and Saha for a starting berth. 4 first-teamers into 2 don’t go, even if you take out Anderson and put him on the bench.
I doubt that Martins would move to Manchester United with a desire to sit on the bench – and if Berbatov is unsettled at Tottenham and wants to play in the starting XI and not get rotated, then he must know that moving to Manchester United will have the opposite effect.
The story about Berbatov and Jol having a tiff is bullshit as well – sure, Berba might not have been happy at being subbed, but no player is happy to be taken off, and there are plenty of players who get angry when subbed. It doesn’t mean that they are automatically unsettled. Tottenham need Berbatov and Berbatov, at the moment, needs Tottenham. He’s not going anywhere, not this season.
Would Manchester United splash 20m on a striker in the last 10 days of August? I’d be surprised if Ferguson even brought in a loan deal – people are quick to forget that the players at the team’s disposal, once fit, are more than a match for any team in the world. People are also quick to believe the hype that’s being played in the media about Tottenham’s supposed problems.
It’s all hype folks, nothing to it. And if anyone really believes that Tottenham are willing to sell Berbatov, they need their head examined.

Football News 24/7
Nice to see a sensible, balanced article unlike the muck-raking, make up a story daily papers. Must be slow news for journalists that can’t find a story or find it too difficult to construct a real story. The daily press are quick to condemn money-grabbing players and their conduct on and off the field but they should look in the mirror and might find they are not better themselves. Some of them are making Bellamy look statesmanlike.
August 21st, 2007 @ 18:26i know its all bullshit,
even berbatovs agent has said everything is ok between him and jol, but at the end of the day people want to unsettle us by making stupid alegations.
Anyway this jol situation has to be sorted, i like jol and i think he will do well, however i think the board have to sort this out once and for all, either replace him now that its early in the season and bring in the new faces that are mentioned i.e riquelme, coentrao or taylor, this will enable us to gel and do well, or they have to come out publicly and shut the critics and let jol stay and he can continue with the squad as normal and the rumoured new players mentioned, otherwise i beleive that if they are giving jol time or a certain amount of games to see what happens with results then that will have jol under more pressure than under normal circumstances and that may destroy our season because jol will be under unecesary pressure which may affect results and that may unsetle the players and end up far behind in the league, and then if they do decide to axe him by the time a new manager comes in and gets to know the players etc, it may be too late
August 21st, 2007 @ 18:40[...] Manchester United after Berbatov? [...]
August 21st, 2007 @ 18:47another point that I should have made – Berba is injured, and by the time he gets all better, some of the United injured players would be back in action.
August 21st, 2007 @ 18:59Anderson isnt a striker to start with and secondly 3 strikers is not enough we need 4.we all know saha.4 strikers not 3 we need 4 not martins or berba maybe anelka but fergie wont buy again
August 21st, 2007 @ 19:11Well well hell must of froze over Ahmed you actually write a archive and dont fill it with B******t??
August 21st, 2007 @ 19:14I seriously doubt if there’s any truth to the story.Man Utd doesn’t need another striker, i’m sure we’ve got decent youngesters in the reserves. Our only problem we have is SAF he never wants to play two strikers at the same time.
August 21st, 2007 @ 20:50There are enough stories with some “actual-factual” about, the problem is, it takes effort (and sometimes knowledge of foreign languages) to root the stuff out…one reason why the newspapers and sky farts screws just regurgitate each others vomit. As City fans we had a classic example of this with the dumb-as-bricks reporting about Sven using video…like Sven said “stupid critics.”
If one really wanted to find out what Berbatov (etc.) thinks, about what is going on in his head, a good place to start would be his home town paper in Bulgaria, “The Struma”, or local TV or radio stations.
For instance, it was ONLY through a report of an interview Bojinov gave to Darik radio, that was (congratulations!) picked by ESPN in the States, that I found out who was doing the surgery on Bojinov, and even then I had to find out the NAME by searching for information about Francesco Totti’s injury! Well, I did it…here is what I put on my blog [hyperlinks on blog].
Okay, Bob-a-job is out for five months. If there are any Catholics in good-standing out there…you know what to do, right?
Right, so does this in any way answer the questions I posed below, or is five months neither long nor short enough to make a confident decision? Damn it! I had “adopted” Bob-a-job along with Breadvan (you know what I mean by “adopted”).
BTW: if you are interested in the surgeon that Bob-a-job mentions operated on Fransceso Totti, his name is (Dr.) Paolo Mariani, Professor at the University of Rome. If you would like to read something about the Doctor who has Bojinov’s career in his hands (and the Dr. did WONDERS with Totti) here is a brief bio. He is also the man called in to fix Palermo striker Amauri after his terrible injury to the cruciate ligaments in his right knee on the 23rd of December, 2006, whilst playing against Ascoli.
Pass it on.

How hard is it for the media to do a half-decent job? Even ESPN who picked up the radio story failed to find out who the doctor was (though they had enough information to dig and find out). I know you aren’t City fans, but why has no-one commenting about Bojinov and a replacement bothered to find out who is going to treat him? Media not interested…or just too lazy? Less stories, more meat please is what I think whatever the club.
August 22nd, 2007 @ 00:33Man.u dont buy anyone juz use anderson and tevez would be good enuf! and use new players like hargreaves and nani more than using flecher and oshea..i dont like them lol..
August 22nd, 2007 @ 14:28Why are spurs fans so defensive now? Before the season starts you did that to us with Henry, Lungberg then with Wenger so now is your turn. And Wenger is about to sign a new contract soon. To the spurs fans . The news you might be hearing can be true. I remember many cases whereby the agents denies any link but suddenly the player signs for another club.
August 23rd, 2007 @ 21:06Tell me who don want to play for a team that can win things and play in champions league. Henry said before how much he loves Arsenal…etc. common if Berbatov wants to leave he will leave unless otherwise.
