Argentine newspaper Ole published a sensational report yesterday when they claimed Manchester United had agreed a personal deal to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.

They claim that a pre-agreement has been reached with the defender, where he’d earn €5m/year with an increase of 150% over his current salary. Ole however mentioned there hadn’t been any agreement with Valencia, although they were almost certain that Otamendi would join United in the summer.

Manchester United had offered €35m for Otamendi last winter, but the move was rejected, with Valencia demanding €50m, the defender’s buy-out clause.

The news came as a bit of surprise to us. Valencia based newspaper Superdeporte hardly covered any transfer story on Otamendi in recent months. Los Che are knocking on the corridors of Champions League and there is no reason for them to sell their prized asset unless United agree to meet the release clause.

Super deporte published a story on Otamendi’s future, where they claim the defender is very happy living in Valencia with his family and he feels very loved by the club’s fans. So he would like to stay at the club and will negotiate a contract renewal with Los Che, which contradicts Ole’s claims.
