Manchester United star’s exit is closer after club confirms talks

Robin van Persie

premier leagueManchester United striker Robin van Persie is edging closer towards Old Trafford exit after Fenerbahce confirmed talks with the player and the English club.

The 31-year-old has one year left on his contract and the Dutchman admitted that he needs to play regular football during the 2015-16 season in order to make it to the national squad for next summer’s European championship.

Van Persie’s agent early denied his client will leave Louis van Gaal’s side. He joined the first team for the pre-season training on 6 July. However, it looks like his time at Old Trafford has come to an end as he is close to completing a switch to Fenerbahce.

“Fenerbahce has begun to transfer talks with Robin Van Persie and his club Manchester United,” the Turkish club tweeted.

With the former Arsenal striker edging close towards United exit, he now joined Angelo Henriquez and Radamel Falcao as the strikers to be shown the exit door by Van Gaal. The Colombian international’s loan spell was ended after a disappointing last season.

Meanwhile, the Chilean international joined Dinamo Zagreb on a permanent transfer after impressing them while on loan for the last campaign. The situation leaves United manager with Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, along with Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker was on-loan at Real Madrid and returned to England this summer. However, it is unlikely that he could be included in Van Gaal’s plan for the next season. All in all, United need a top quality striker if they allow Van Persie leave.
