Manchester United sign Berbatov as Campbell goes to Tottenham

odds on scoring 30?

Manchester United have signed Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur for £30.75m. Frazier Campbell is headed the other way in a 1-year loan deal (smart bit of business from United, that).

The transfer was always expected to go down to the wire but Manchester City’s weekend takeover threw it in a spin with City’s new owners jumping in with a bid for Berbatov which was accepted by Tottenham.

Berbatov, however, wasn’t swayed by the wads of cash being waved under his nose and stuck to his guns and while City turned to Spain (where Robinho had no qualms about jumping outside the Champions League for a season), United sweetened the deal with young striker Frazier Campbell and the rest is history. Very expensive history and a decent bit of business by Tottenham when you look at the 20m profit and 46 goals in 2 years.

Now we can put this transfer business behind us and watch England stumble around in Barcelona and Zagreb for a couple of weeks. Football should be so simple….

Alex Ferguson:

“This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football. His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans.”

Dimitar Berbatov:

“Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come.”

I seem to remember the gooners gloating when they robbed Sol Campbell until he educated their players in how to run down your contract and leave for free! Maybe he can advise Ronaldo on how to leave for a bigger club! Thanks for the cash £30 million will come in handy in January. Ha Ha, you have been robbed!

We have definitely been milked but the sad fact is that there’s no other player like Berbatov that is on the market.

It is clear Tottenham Hotspur F C did not agree a fee with Manchester Utd F C regarding Dimitar Berbatov prior to MUFC entering into talks with him. THFC were under the immpression The palyer would be talking to Manchester City FC. MUFC Hijacked him at the airport with the club Manager Alex Fergusen and an F A Executive David Gill and practically held a player that was contracted to spurs until minutes before the transfer deadline. The F A needs to look into the conduct of MUFC and more importantly why an F A Executive (David Gill) was there to witness and promote this unsavoury behavour. A real supporter would condemn the actions of their club, not appluad them!
