Manchester United sign 24-year old striker Manucho
The striker, who has been on trial at Manchester United, arrives from Angolan side Petro Athletico on a three-year deal.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson:
“We have had Manucho here for a three-week trial and have been impressed enough to offer him a contract. He is a tall, agile, quick forward and through contacts that Carlos (Queiroz) has, was brought to our attention around six months ago.”
Manucho, whose real name is Mateus Alberto Contreiras Goncalves, arrives at Old Trafford in January subject to a work permit.
He was top goalscorer in the last two seasons of the GiraBola, finishing with 16 goals for Petro Luanda in 2006 and 15 goals this year. Manucho will be part of the Angolan squad for the African Nations Cup in January.
He joins Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Loius Saha and Dong Fangzhou in Manchester United’s striking department. His arrival at Manchester United lessens the burden on Rooney and Tevez and gives Manchester United another option to the injury-prone Saha and the not-so-effective Dong.
Since he’ll be at the African Nations Cup, Manucho is one for the future and I’d expect him to feature Feb / March onwards.
What do you guys think - is he going to be a good signing for Manchester United? Post pictures, video links, etc in the comments if you find any.

Well i guess he must be gud if he has impressed SAF!
There’s a pic of him at the official man utd site!
Well he seems to be a good striker and quite technical. Also he will give United a different dimension as he is a tall, strong player.
We will have to wait and see but I reckon he will become quite a good player and I see it a sign that Dong will not feature in future plans.
Has the list of players in the Angolan squad been released yet ?
Why even mention dong as a united ” striker,” hel never be included in a premier league side or any game with significance for that matter.hope this guy is half decent because three strikers is not sufficient for a team going for the treble.hope hes handy in the air too
Well he’s 6′2 so that gives him a bit more of a heads up over the other strikers we have.
I have no idea whether he is good or not because I try to check him out from You Tube but couldn’t find. Too bad! All the best to Man Utd since he are two seasons top scorer at Angola League.
One of my mates was telling me about this guy in Championship Manager! So far all the Football Manager or Championship Manager stars turn out good signings so I was happy when i heard about this guy
I think my mate was managing a team in the coca cola championships and he was his top scorer and had good finishing and he also said we can compare him to Adebayor. I heard Sir Alex was after Adebayor so maybe Sir Alex is trying to buy a target man who is tall and brings something compeltey new to United’s attack?
i reckon he might be ok, but wether he will get a go to play in the premiership i dont know
watch Out 4 manucho @ GHANA 2008 NATIONS CUP
I’ve seen him play live. In d Caf cup qualifiers se is really good.very fast and never scared to take a shot on goal
