Manchester United enjoyed a mixed campaign this year. After a catastrophic season last term, which saw the Red Devils drop out of the Champions League, Van Gaal and his players have taken them back to where they belong.

United started the season poorly, but did well to cope with the injuries and steadied the ship. At one point, it looked like United were on course for a second spot finish. However a run of bad games towards the end meant that the Old Trafford outfit finished fourth.

Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal have achieved their primary objective this season and here are three things to look forward to next season.

Fixture Congestion

Manchester United have had their fair share of injuries this season. Having qualified for Europe, there will be plenty more games to play and the fixture congestion will drain a lot out of the squad.

How will Van Gaal’ men cope with playing twice a week? It is evident he needs a bigger squad and a better fitness regime. It will be interesting to see how the Dutchman responds to these challenges next term.

Trophies

United achieved their primary target this season, which was to be back in the Champion League. Next season is about winning trophies, just like Wayne Rooney suggested.

Manchester United are all about winning trophies and Van Gaal will have to try and win silverware next season. The league title and the Champions League might be too much to ask for at the moment.

FA Cup or the League cup? very much possible.

After a disappointing domestic cup campaign this year, Van Gaal will be keen to right his wrongs and deliver a cup next season.

Transfers

After splashing out on the likes of Di Maria, Herrera and Falcao, Manchester United have turned a lot of heads across Europe. They are the new transfer sensation after Real Madrid.

The Red Devils have been linked to the likes of Vidal, Hummels, Lloris and Gareth Bale.

These are interesting times for an United supporter. There is no doubt that United have the financial muscle to land the aforementioned names. Also, with De Gea likely to depart, United will be keen to make a statement in the market.

Galactico summer?

Manchester United have already landed a world class young talent in Memphis Depay and with several quality players set to join the Reds this season, Manchester United have a lot to be optimistic about.
