Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for Belgian midfielder Maraoune Fellaini this summer. The Belgian was signed on the transfer deadline day by former manager David Moyes a little over nine months ago and became the fifth expensive signing in Manchester United’s history.
The former Everton midfielder who was signed for a reported fee of £27.5m failed to fit into the system at Manchester United, with a combination of poor performance and injury created frustrations among the fans.
Furthermore, the Dutchman wants to switch to a more fluid 4-3-3 formation and is ready to cut loses on Fellaini.
United are hoping to recoup £15m for Fellaini, whose transfer value could hike up, should he produce a strong performance for Belgium at the World Cup in Brazil. Van Gaal will reportedly take charge at Old Trafford after the World Cup but has instructed Ed Woodward, the United executive vice-chairman, to carry on with the task of trimming United’s squad.
Van Gaal wants to reduce the squad from 30 to 22 this season, and is looking to bring in four or five new players.
