Till last week it seemed like Kevin de Bruyne was heading towards Manchester City.

The Citizens have put in a massive offer for the Belgian winger, but Bundesliga club Wolfsburg haven’t accepted the bid yet.

German newspaper Bild suggest, the Premier League side have offered around €80m to Wolfsburg, while De Bruyne has been offered a massive €20m salary per season on a six-year-contract. Probably they were hoping for Manchester United to make a shock late move for De Bruyne? Yes, they were right.

According to reports from the German media, Manchester United have stepped in to sign the former Chelsea attacking midfielder. The 24-year-old, who recently claimed that he wants to stay at Wolfsburg (and whose agent countered the view immediately), isn’t completely convinced on a move to Manchester City.

His agent however holds a contrasting view. Patrick De Koster, his agent, earlier revealed that the offer made by Manchester City would be hard to turn down.

“Kevin has a sporting and financial plan [offer] proposed that are difficult to say no to,” De Koster was quoted as saying by The Times.

There were also reports that German champions Bayern Munich could enter the race, but it appears that the Bavarians are likely to move for him next summer.

According to reports from Sport 1, Manchester United are prepared to pay €75m for De Bruyne, but the Red Devils haven’t made any formal bid yet. United have shown a great interest in the player and the club have the financial muscle to sign De Bruyne before the transfer deadline. Can they do it is a big question here.

An official spokesperson from Wolfsburg has denied such rumours but Bild suggest that the insiders at the club are aware of United’s interest. It is believed that De Bruyne prefers to stay in the Bundesliga. He will happily continue his career for one more season at Wolfsburg before switching to Bayern Munich next summer.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly submitted a massive €190m bid for Barcelona’s world class forward Neymar. Brazilian press are usually reliable when it comes to their own players, but Catalan press believes it is absolutely unthinkable to sell Neymar (especially after selling Pedro to Chelsea) especially at a time when they cannot sign any players due to the transfer ban imposed on them.
