Manchester United player ratings vs Aston Villa – Rooney superb

A Wayne Rooney double and a goal each from Juan Mata and Javier Hernandez ensured Manchester United settled early nerves to emerge 4-1 winners over Aston Villa in the lunch time kickoff at Old Trafford.

Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa had earlier taken the lead thanks to a sumptuous free-kick from Ashley Westwood, but Rooney’s brace and Mata’s first ever goal for the club made sure it wasn’t to be a third successive defeat for the Red Devils at home. Javier Hernandez then added a fourth right at the death following a wonderful run and cross from substitute Adnan Januzaj.

Defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City had piled the pressure on manager David Moyes, with fans even sending a plane overhead with a ‘Moyes Out’ banner, but today’s win against Villa will come as a welcome break for the Scot, before the daunting Champions League quarter final first leg against holders Bayern Munich this week.

Here are Manchester United’s player ratings from a sunny Old Trafford afternoon.

Subs: Carrick (7), Januzaj (7), Hernandez (7)

Manchester United 4-1 Aston Villa: Three Key Talking Points
PHOTO: Juan Mata celebrates his first Manchester United goal

  1. all players played well

rooney, mata, kagawa, januzaj, fletcher and hernandez were very good

but i dont understand why moyes doesnt select nani from start or as sub?

  2. Kagawa deserves a 9. His assists were sublime. What must he do to be seen as playing well? A hat-trick of goals and sublime assists every game?

  3. and kagawa plays from the left! I hope he gets to rotate with mata for fairer comparison between the 2

  4. KAGAWA IS AGREAT PLAYER indeed.. i wish he stays at MANCHESTER. CHICHARITO is another good player.. i prefer moyes to use KAGAWA, MATA, ROONEY and VALENCIA and drop YOUNG..but i dont know the mind of Mr. MOYES.
