Manchester United Officially Unveil 2006/2007 Kit (Pictures)

They were right, I was wrong. Maybe it was the disbelief, or sheer pig-headedness.

The new Manchester United 2006/2007 kit has been released, and for the record, looks butt-ugly.

The kit is supposed to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the success of the famous Busby Babes – and is truly retro. Gone is the ‘true red’; this one looks more orange to me.

A hat-tip to Dixon who sent me a kit pic similar to this one a week ago, which I rejected because I couldn’t believe it would be this bad.

And once again, I got it horribly wrong here.

I figure that we would get used to the kit after watching it for a couple of matches, but putting the crest in a white background like that totally kills off the effect, and for the love of god would someone do something about the AIG logo?

I’m happy that they are a big sponsor and that United is lucky to get that sort of money coming in, but spend a couple of grand, hire a freelance designer and get him to put together a new AIG logo for you.

Tell you what – I bet a United fan would probably do it for free too.

Is it really as bad as I think or am I just being too picky here?

That is the best kit United have brought out in years, retro 58 Duncan Edwards style, and it also has MUFC on the bottom (football club) well done United, you have done something right at last!

I like the retro-ness of it, and the general cut of the design. Like they say, ‘style never goes out of fashion’.

Not sure about the badge. I guess it goes with the whole retro thing but think it will take a bit of getting used to.

Don’t like the AIG logo at all. Looks too big and dominant for my liking on the main shot, although not so much on the picture of Giggs. Maybe it looks better on than off.

Still, off we all go to buy one. Gotta pay for that new midfield somehow …

Orange. With white behind the crest. AIG looks out of place. Utter shite.

Retro to that extent needs a different fabric. One that will absorn Fake Ronaldo’s tears would be nice.

It’s not so bad. The white background to the emblem could do with being a little bit smaller, but overall, it’s simple and classis like our football should be. Besides, we’ve had worse. The blue/white static away thing when Blackmore beat Arsenal in the League Cup – dreadful. The grey away thing when the players couldn’t see each other. The home shirt with all the players names on (except Ince – still amuses me) The early 90′s shirts with the lace up collar. What was all that about. That awful thing from around ’85 with the white flashes on the shoulders and the badge in the middle. No, the badge covers the heart!!

If AIG want their logo redesigning, well, I’m a United fan and run a design agency. While we won’t quite do it for free, it’ll be a damn site better than 3 letter in a box!

yer nice kit, the new away one is ok,,thw writin on the back is gold if tht is the right 1, and the badge is on a black background, but the kit it self is white, i think it would b nicer if the kit was black and the writin was still gold. but o well whocares about the kit, i jus wanna get a few new good players and win the league!!!!!!!!

The new kit is brilliant….its just the logo of the new sponsors that dont go with the flow of the shirt…if u know wut I mean. I cant wait to purchase it…..and it’ll look mean in long sleeves!
AIG wont change the logo they had for years so that it goes well on a shirt…which is unfortunate. To me, The O2 logo and the Gunners top complement each other the best.
For people who cant appreciate the ‘retro’ look and what the ‘look’ stands for….just hang on for another season.

The AIG logo is boring, but so was Sharp’s. It could be worse it could be as ugly as Arsenal’s (http://shop.arsenal.com:80/arsenal/product.asp?dept%5Fid=2002&pf%5Fid=06ASHS&maindept=1058#).

Not a bad looking kit at all.

The club crest is a copy of the CL kit from ’99 and it is Red/White because we were in Red/White during the busby babes era which would suggest we move over to a white away kit next.

Also the current away kit will stay the same [the blue one] just with AIG on the front as it’s only been out a few months.

I love the new kit. The red looks fantastic and the white is a good contrast to it. What I dislike, no hate, is that freakin’ huge AIG logo. They may be the 4th largest company in the world, surely they can pay a little to design a new logo exclusive to Man Utd shirts. After all, mechandise really sells.

All in all though, the new style is just classy.

Sorry but whoever thinks this new man utd kit looks pap is truly deluded. I AM a freelance designer and I think, rightly so , that the sheer simplicity of it elavates it above most other kits. In short, it rocks. Gone are the silly, fussy little swishes and flicks that have blighted the last two kits (black and white respectively), and while not totally undesirible to look at, they were equally not very attractive either.

This one shines quality with clean simple lines that emphasise the unique design that most other nike shirts do not have. Especially the national kits like brazil. The use of gold frames the quality of the football that is on show and the shield behing the badge harks back not to just the busby era in it’s retro srtyling (even if they didn’t have it) but more so to United’s european kit in 1999 when they won the glorious treble (are you reading liverpool?). With the football on show so far this season, it could bring a repeat of that year!

In short, simple and quality looking with an understated touch of class, just like the team that proudly wears it. I do agree though that the AIG logo looks like a 3-year-old has drawn it with a crayon using his feet, but this is hardly the fault of the shirt designer.

Plus it makes Rooney look like a tank.

i think united should get rid of the third kit, the home kit and away should stay the same cos evry1 is familiar with it as the kit of champions now, but the blue kit come on, blue???? doesn’t that say we need a change right away!
