Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Robin van Persie is the only injury player for Newcastle United clash.

The 20-times English champions make a trip to St James’ Park on Wednesday evening, following their 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford last Saturday. For the tie against the Black Cats, United were without defensive duo of Luke Shaw and Phil Jones, along with Victor Valdes.

The Dutchman left the Liberty Stadium on crutches as the Red Devils suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City. The former Arsenal skipper last featured for United against the Welsh club and Van Gaal admitted last week that the strike could be out for one or two weeks.

However, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager admitted that he is unaware as to how long the Dutch international will be out on the sidelines.

“Louis van Gaal tells #MUTV that Robin van Persie is United’s only current injury, but adds it’s too soon to say how long he’ll be out for,” United tweeted.

With Van Persie out of action, Wayne Rooney could start as a strike against the Tyneside club, especially after scoring twice in the second half against Sunderland.

Michael Carrick returned to the substitutes bench against Guys Poyet’s side, but did not make it to the pitch. Van Gaal believes the England international is likely to miss Newcastle fixture as the Dutch manager believes it is too early for him to make a comback.

” Although Michael Carrick returned to the bench vs Sunderland, van Gaal tells reporters it’s too early for him to start tomorrow. #mufc,” United confirmed.

This means Daley Blind will start against the  Magpies and United will be hoping for a second consecutive win in the league during the mid week.
