Manchester United: Heinze NOT for sale
Rumours that Gareth Bale had interested Manchester United, and Juve’s fantasy that Heinze would consider hopping over to a club in Serie B (which wouldn’t play the Champions League until 2008-2009, and that’s being very optimistic) has got some idiot rumour-mongers saying that Manchester United are willing to let go of Gabby Heinze if the right offer is made and if his sale can help bring in some like Mavuba or Hargreaves.
For those of you who are actually dumb enough to believe this, here’s why Manchester United WON’T be selling Heinze - not this winter, not in next summer either.
1 - Heinze is our best left back
Anyone who thinks that Evra is first-choice for Manchester United doesn’t know the first thing about football. Yes, Evra has pace, and is a naturally attacking player, but his defending is horrible, and is crossing is just as bad. Heinze is a mile ahead of Evra as a defender (even when he’s half-fit), and let’s face it, who would you rather pick against Barcelona - Heinze or Evra?
Players are judged by their ability to perform against the biggest clubs in the world, like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Milan, Juve, Bayern (also the rich clubs like Chelsea, or the wannabes, like Arsenal). Evra would be lucky to be a substitute against those teams. Heinze would be a sure starter.
So the question is - with Bale still a kid, why would Manchester United sell their best defender, who’s just 28 and after coming back from a serious injury should give us at least 2 years of quality defending?
2 - Manchester United don’t need to sell
Manchester United have the funds necessary to bring in a couple of players in January - if they feel the need to. Right now, if we ARE moving for Bale we’re only doing so because we want to snap talent before other clubs do - Bale will be out on loan for the next 18 months if Manchester United sign him. If Bale would cost 5 mil, and Hargreaves another 15-20 mil, I think Manchester United have that kind of money to spend on those two players. The question is IF United want to buy them, not whether they need to sell to buy them, because they don’t.
3 - Heinze doesn’t want to go
He’s said so himself during the summer that he liked being at Manchester United and that he wanted to repay Alex Ferguson for the faith he showed in him for supporting him throughout his season-long injury (not to mention his desire to play for his country that kept him away from Old Trafford in first couple of months after his signing).
Nothing to see here I’m afraid. Heinze ain’t being sold, not to Bayern (they have Lucio and van Buyten as central defenders, Lahm as left-back, why would they sign Heinze? To make him sit on the bench?), not to Juve (no CL for two years).
Alan Smith, on the other hand, could be sold
Think about that…
- Saha’s and Heinze’s future at Manchester United
- Heinze loses bid to move to Liverpool; Gabby please stay with Manchester United now
- Manchester United pawn off Heinze to Real Madrid
- Why Heinze leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid makes sense
- Heinze ready to leave Manchester United

You’re an idiot. Evra has definitely established himself as United’s first choice left back now, and if you can’t see that by now then you’re blind.
1. I agree that heinze is a better defender but 1: Evra is improving by the second, 2: Against barca i know that fergie would go for evra because barca are very slow at the back and even horrible. Vidic ferdinand and gary will hold off ronaldinho who doesn’t play on the right wing. 3: Man Utd are not only looking for Bale and hargreaves. Torres and the replacement for paul scholes (we don’t really know who he will be) are a priority too. So i wouldn’t be surprised if we offload some defenders. 4: Heinze doesn’t want to go but doesn’t Fergie decides who goes??
quote ‘Manchester United have the funds necessary to bring in a couple of players in January - if they feel the need to.’
are you not forgetting the small matter of 700 million pounds worth of debt?
United will sell before buying , get used it it, sad but true.
Heinze did not recapture his best form after his injury. Evra played against Arsenal, wonderfully, he’s in better form now. There’s no problems with his crossing now, it’s not the spring of 2006.
I would hate to see Heinze go but if we could secure Bale… sell Silvestre!
Heinze has been knowhere near as good as evra this season. He has looked slow, unfit and lacking confidence. Evra on the other hand is quick can defend really well (especially when needed to slide for the ball) and gives the team an extra dimension when attacking. I ask you mate how many games have you seen this season?
By which determinant are u rating Evra as first choice. How many CL matches has he started had it not been for injuries and inconsistencies by Sylvestre. If SAF offloads Heinze how many world class left backs are we left with? How many seasons would Bale and Evra need to attain a world class status. It would be a wrong gamble to sell of Heinze thinking there is a replacement in Evra….1.PEACE
Sorry Ahmed, but you can’t have seen too many Man U games this season because Evra has been in superb form and has rightly kept Heinze out of the team. He’s taken his chance with Heinze not being up to full fitness and is keeping him out of the first team. The only time presently that Heinze is getting a look-in is when the opposition has a big centre forward who will target Evra’s lack of height and play up against him rather than the two centre halves.
Last Season Evra was awful, he wasn’t used to our game and didn’t know his team mates or the United way of playing. This season he’s been a revelation.
I’m guessing you’re not a season ticket holder, are you my friend?
Heinze > Evra?
noyb, youre the “idiot”. Everyone knows that the major reason heinze didnt start the season 100% was because argentina played him when he wasnt near full fitness. Not only did he miss most of the pre-season but when he did return, he got injured again so he hasnt really had a consitent run of games. Its funny to see how many seem to forget Heinze’s performances last year that won him the Fans’ Player of the Year Award (Man Utd). Defensively, as Ahmed said, he is much stronger and whilst he doesnt possess Evra’s pace, he is still an eager full back to press further up.
Ahmed - I think Bale would cost 10 million at least.
Heinze is a class act but lost his form after his injury and is now second choice to Evre. i think your analysis/criticism of Evre is harsh as he has been a revelation this season and has raised his game to another level. while i am a fan of Heinze i sometimes feel he can be too rash. i always worry about him giving away a penalty or silly free kick. having said that he has great spirit and is a real player and it would be crazyto sell him. as for Evre, i would love to see him in the holding midfield position to see how he would get on. i think he could cut it.
If we’re looking for a replacement for Scholes, then why do we have Carrick in there? Hargo is touted as a potential Keane - not your present #16 - a jersey makes not a player.
Getting back to the topic at hand, Evra’s highlighted the phrase “make use of the opportunity you get.” Reckon some of the second stringers could learn from that, and actually perform in the “lesser” cups, thus giving Fergie a selection headache. As per the selection between Evra and Gabi, Gabi’s yet to return to full fitness - or at least the same is translated due to the form Evra finds himself in at the moment. No ones going anywhere - if someone is adamant enough to be selling a leftback, reckon you could sell Silvestre. The Gabi / Evra availibility leaves you in the comfort zone - not a situation that Chelski find themselves in at the moment where despite all the riches, they don’t have proper back. Funny isn’t it - we’re in a massive debt, and can still afford two of the finest leftbacks?
Evra is first choice now, without question…He has been the best left back in the premiership to date…His pace and attacking play has added another dimension to our game on the left what with giggsy preferring to cut inside more, and fergie has realised this…Also those who suggest that evra cannot defend are sorely mistaken, because his defensive game has come on leaps and bounds since his early shaky moments, like the city game….Heinze has struggled so far and his injury seems to have taken alot out of him…
The author of the article suggested that those supporting evra as first choice had no clue about football…Im afraid to say that the shoe is most certainly on the other foot, and its a perfect match as well!
We’ve lost 5 games this season. Heinze started 4 of them and Silvestre the other. Does that not say something?
Evra’s defending is horrible?? He has been better ALL AROUND this season than Heinze.
Quote:
“Yes, Evra has pace, and is a naturally attacking player, but his defending is horrible, and is crossing is just as bad. Heinze is a mile ahead of Evra as a defender… ”
With comments like those, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
I don’t think Heinze should go and it certainly wouldn’t be good management to sell him either, as we’d have no cover in that area (Silvestre is not as reliable as he once was).
Furthermore:
1. Heinze is not at all a good crosser of the ball. Evra’s much better here.
2. Evra is a much better (and quicker)attacker and provides more assists, and has even scored. Heinze never looks likely to score at any time.
3. Notwithstanding, I like Heinze and I think he is a very good player for us.
We certainly both (and probably all) agree on the same point that Heinze is very good and should not go anywhere. However, if you’re going to make a point, you’re better off using some intelligence by employing facts - not fantasy or sentiment.
”Manchester United have the funds necessary to bring in a couple of players in January ”
hahahahaha.
we’re potless - get used to it.
I also think that Evra has established himself, but I cannot help wondering if we let Heinze go off elsewhere, and if Evera was to take poorly with an ankle injury, what state we would be in.
I think it is better for moral all around that we do not sell anyone.
I certainly don’t think that Hargreaves is an United player, because of his constant crying to the media in his desire to get back to England. Any decent player, would allow the talks to go on with the people that matter and stay clear of the media. I suppose if Hargreaves was to arrive at United, and he didn’t like a decision, he would be the first to report it to the News of the World.
Anyhow, I don’t think there is enough pennies in the pot for United to go splashing the (big) cash on any players during January. Most of the exits and entrants of squad players will happen in summer 2007.
’shaheen’ you fool. i didnt mention anything about injuries or whatever else, except state the simple truth which is that Evra has definitely established himself as Fergie’s first choice left back now, and if you can’t see that by now then you’re blind.
