Manchester United given hope in the chase for Toni Kroos

This month, two national newspapers of UK, The Guardian and The Mirror, both covered the transfer situation of Manchester United target Toni Kroos.

Kroos is one of the top midfielders in the world at the moment and certainly one of the key players for the reigning European Champions.

However, his contract situation is bit tricky. He has a contract till 2015 and wants a significant pay rise, but his current employers are not too willing to grant such wish. Manchester United, who are in dire need of midfield reinforcement in the summer, want to take the advantage of his situation with a better pay-package offer, even though the Red Devils cannot offer him Champions League football next season.

Kroos himself has hinted of his desire to play in the Premier League. Many see it as a ploy from the German midfielder to gain an upper hand in the negotiation table with his employers.

Call it skepticism on our part, but we’re not giving credence to the hype, as claimed by John Cross of The Mirror, that Kroos is a) ready to join Manchester United, b) has told Bayern and Germany team-mates that he is determined to make the switch to Old Trafford.

But, there could be a genuine interest from Manchester United. Guardian reported yesterday that the Red Devils are ready to offer him £260,000 a week to lure him to join the Old Trafford club.

The player’s agent, Volker Struth said earlier: “We are confronted with a variety of rumors for months, but will continue not get to learn. But the moment I believe that Toni plays at least in Bavaria until 2015.”

And now he reiterates“It is not an official contract offer is presented. Lastly, there is no need for an official offer to deliver. Because Toni Kroos will play for Bayern for at least 2015.”

And Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said already that it depends on the player himself, although he wants him to stay at the club.

Fair enough. We at least get the hint that the player could make the move in future, even if it is for a free transfer, as mentioned by Bild. Will Bayern allow the midfielder to go on a free transfer? Certainly not! Will they tie him up with a lucrative long term contract? Possible, but we haven’t got any such sign yet.

So, all we can say is, there is bit of hope left for Manchester United.
